Manchester United will face a familiar foe when they travel to Germany for their Champions League opener against Bayern Munich. Harry Kane, who was linked with an Old Trafford move during the summer, will lead the line for the Bundesliga giants and Rio Ferdinand expects the England captain to have the "bit between his teeth". The two giants face off on September 20, exclusively live on TNT Sports.

'The bit will be between his teeth' - Ferdinand on Kane and Man Utd's trip to Bayern

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane will have the “bit between his teeth” when Manchester United travel to Germany for their curtain-raising Champions League clash - which will be exclusively live on TNT Sports - says Rio Ferdinand.
The England captain left boyhood club Tottenham this summer to join the Bundesliga champions, despite interest from Old Trafford.
Kane has started strongly at his new club, continuing the goalscoring form he was known for at Spurs.
Ferdinand believes he will be fired up to face United in Bayern's first game of the Champions League group stage at the Allianz Arena on September 20, live on TNT Sports and discovery+ - the streaming home of the Champions League in the UK.
“I can’t wait. Look at the clubs. Two clubs with huge history,” Ferdinand told TNT Sports before the huge clash.
“The backdrop of Harry Kane being there as well, the England captain, someone who a lot of Man Utd fans would have wanted to come and wear the United shirt.
“He’s a phenomenal player, his record speaks for itself.
“Champions League football, he’s been there, he’s produced before, he’s been to a final [in 2019] but never won it. He hasn’t got his hands on any silverware, so the bit will be between his teeth.
“I don’t think there will be anyone in the Man Utd dressing room taking him for granted or being complacent.”
Kane did not win a trophy in his 13-year stint with Spurs but came close in 2018/19 when they reached the Champions League final, losing to Liverpool.
United were widely reported to be interested in the 30-year-old this summer but eventually brought in youngster Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta as their major centre-forward reinforcement.
Asked if he would have liked to see Kane in a United shirt, former Red Devils defender Ferdinand replied: “Yeah, but it just isn’t to be. You’ve just got to respect that he’s gone where he’s gone.
“He’s on a new path, there’s a new story being written for Harry Kane.

‘Brilliant’ - Hargreaves excited to see Kane take on Manchester United with Bayern Munich

“He’s a fabulous player, well respected and rightly so. The guy knows where the goal is, he knows how to score goals. Man Utd are going to have to stop him, among others.”
The meeting between the two European giants is one of the biggest fixtures on the first matchday of the 2023/24 Champions League group stage.
Bayern, Copenhagen and Galatasaray share Group A with United as Erik ten Hag’s side look to make their mark in Europe’s premier competition after missing out on qualification last year.
Ferdinand is expecting a difficult night for the Red Devils against a Bayern side that last won the Champions League in 2019/20.
“There are some great players in that Bayern Munich team, they have got great pedigree,” Ferdinand said.
“Man Utd are back in the competition where they want to be.
“It’s a tough ask, away to Bayern Munich, no matter what year you go there, what team they’ve got. They will give you a tough, tough game. It will be interesting to see how it goes.”
