A couple of early corners from Liverpool raises the noise level inside Anfield. The second one drops for Van Dijk who sees his snap shot tipped over by Alphonse Areola.

LAST TIME v the FRENCH: The Reds last met a French opponent in the 2015-16 Europa League group stage. They drew 1-1 in Bordeaux before winning 2-1 at Anfield in one of Klopp's first matches in charge.

Neymar picks up possession on the left and saunters into the middle. He accelerates beyond three challenges and tires to get Mbappe in-behind, but Van Dijk is across well to mop up.

LFC at home to FRENCH OPPOSITION: The Reds have won 11 and lost two of 14 matches on home turf versus sides from France. Marseille (2007) and Lyon (2009) are the only teams to have left L4 with a victory.

The odd couple? Last term James Milner equalled the record set by Neymar (eight in 2016-17) for the most assists in a single CL season since 2003-04.

A BIT OF PREVIOUS: This is only the second time Liverpool and PSG will lock horns in Europe. The sides met in the Cup Winners' Cup semi final back in 1997 when the Reds lost 3-2 on aggregate, despite almost turning around a 3-0 first-leg deficit suffered in France. Robbie Fowler and Mark Wright notched for the Merseysiders at Anfield, but despite throwing the kitchen sink at the visitors, they could not undo the damage.

Will Henderson's experience be important tonight? He returned to Merseyside late following England's run to the World Cup semi final and has had to bide his time getting into the team. This is only his second start of the campaign

Both sides have made perfect starts on the domestic scene. PSG have won five Ligue 1 titles in the past six seasons and are heavy favourites to lift another come May.
But for Liverpool it's been a long wait since they last topped the top-flight. Indeed, you have to go way back to 1990. Is it finally their time?

PSG coach Thomas Tuchel: "If we judge ourselves only by the biggest goal in European football, the possibility of a big disappointment is high. Why should we do this? Sometimes I feel sorry for my team because I know the effort they put in. We play at home against defensive teams and we win and win and win. It is not because it is easy, it is because these guys show the hunger to win and win and win."

Jurgen Klopp on PSG: "Paris are one of the favourites for the competition, for sure. This team is built for winning the Champions League. They have unbelievable quality. I have said it before, I like these challenges, but I only like it because I have a really good football team. If I was not a manager, I would watch this game. We play at Anfield and it can be an advantage. We hope we can use that. We need any help we can get."

A big, big night for Mr Sturridge. Can he deliver?

As expected, PSG welcome back Neymar after he was rested against St Etienne on Friday. Kylian Mbappe also starts after serving a suspension which means the visitors do have their much-vaunted front three in attack. Centre back Marquinhos will play in front of the back four as a defensive midfielder for the third time this season while Juan Bernat gets the nod at left back ahead of Stanley N'Soki.

The good news for Liverpool is that Roberto Firmino is deemed fit enough for the bench after suffering an eye injury in the win at Tottenham. He is replaced by Daniel Sturridge who is one of two changes from the weekend. Captain Jordan Henderson also features in place of Naby Keita.
