GOAL!
De Bruyne beautifully picks out a Sterling run on the left of the area. He, in turn, crosses to an unmarked Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese collects and loops the ball over the 'keeper!

Basel have defended well up until that set piece. A man on the post - or a man tracking Gundogan - would have prevented the goal.

City are playing some patient build-up play, but the danger of a Basel counter is always there.

CHANCE!
Riveros plays a ball over the top to Oberlin, who is clear on goal 35 yards out! Ederson comes out to claim and Oberlin knocks it past him... but there's too little power in the shot and Otamedni runs to clear.
That was very close to being the opener!
5'
Stocker breaks down the right wing from a throw-in and tries to play Oberlin in the box, but he's unable to beat the City offside trap.
A potentially dangerous counter from the hosts.

AND WE'RE OFF!
Swedish referee Jonas Eriksson blows the whistle at a very cold St. Jakob-Park and Oberlin takes the first touch.
19.40
More from Guardiola: "We have done well so far [domestically] but this is another competition and every game is tough because of the quality of the players and many, many, many other reasons.
"We are here with confidence to go through, but we know exactly what can happen if we are not at our level. Last season is last season: we played a really good team in Monaco, they reached the semis and won the league in France. We will try to get a good result!”
Kick-off is five minutes away!
19.35
Basel have already taken a Manchester scalp in this competition, beating United in their penultimate group stage game at Old Trafford.
Pep, however, beat them 5-0 at St. Jakob-Park with his Barcelona side in the 2008-09 group stage, on the way to winning the competition.
19.30
Pep Guardiola on Leroy Sane: "He is on the bench because he can play, but we will see. His fitness is OK, but it's not perfect."
Kick-off is 15 minutes away.

Taulant Xhaka speaks: "I think Manchester City are the best team in the world at the moment. They are compact, very quick going forward. Any of their players can decide the game, like De Bruyne or Agüero, so you can't just let them keep the ball. You really have to be compact and try to disrupt their game.
"[My brother] Granit has played them several timesand he said they're pretty strong because they're always in motion. The football they play is direct with just two or three touches, and going forward they have a lot of speed. He said we have to believe in ourselves, to give our best."
