Zinedine Zidane: "I don't think it'll be a failure if we lose. Failure can come from a bad attitude and if we cannot replicate what we have done in the past that would be a failure, but it's a game of football. All I can say is we are very ready for the game, ready is the word."

Diego Simeone: "There is no such thing as revenge in football, or in life for that matter, just new opportunities. 'Revenge' is a negative word, because it harks back to a defeat; on the other hand, 'opportunity' is about optimism, confidence and what's to come, and that's what we want to show in the Champions League." He added: "We've been working on our style of play for the last four and a half years, with particular emphasis on our level of intensity. Many people drive themselves mad trying to get their players into that state. Even with the changes that have taken place, we've always kept up the same level of intensity.... We've already played two of the top three teams in the world and now we're facing the third in the final."

Ronaldo full of swagger. He was an injury concern before the 2014 final in Lisbon too, so there's more than a little sense of deja vu about this showdown. Speaking ahead of the match, he told the press: "Cristiano always appears in the games that matter. I'll be at 100%. On Saturday, I'll be in better form than I was in Lisbon."

STAT: Eleven of the players starting tonight also started the #uclfinal in 2014 (six for Real, five for Atletico (via OptA Paolo). Real beat their neighbours 4-1 aet.

Atletico pretty much as expected with the one selection poser seeing Simeone select Savić instead of José María Giménez. Unsurprisingly, Torres starts on what he has described as the 'most important' game he will ever play in as he bids to win his first major trophy with his boyhood side. He said: "This is different, this is special. It's what I wanted when I was a kid, more than I dreamed. Without any doubt it's the most important, special and lovely game of my life. Anything I can do with the club that gave me the chance to start my career, the team I was a fan of since I was five years old, is different to anything else I've won."

So nothing out of the ordinary for Real Madrid. Casemiro was described by Simeone as Real Madrid's most important player yesterday and he anchors in mdifield, allowing Kroos and Modric a bit more freedom either side of him.
