FT
The final whistle goes and Manchester City progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in their history. The game itself won’t linger long in the memory, but it’s been a job well done by Pellegrini and his players to hold Dynamo Kiev at arm’s length throughout tonight’s 90 minutes. At the Etihad if finishes Manchester City 0 (3), Dynamo Kiev 0 (1).

City survive a goalmouth scramble as Dynamo look to snatch a consolation victory on English soil.

Kiev's approach was reasonable enough tonight - keep it tight, try and hit City on the break and then throw on extra strikers in the second half. Unfortunately they are just not a very good team and haven't ever really looked likely to trouble the Premier League outfit in either of the two legs.

There will be four minutes of added time at the end of the game.

The City fans are beginning to celebrate. There's not been much to shout about on the pitch, but reaching the last eight in Europe is huge.

Hart makes a big save to snuff out any lingering Kiev hopes. The visitors appeal in vain for a penalty, but they know that their race is run.

Yarmolenko slides a shot wide when well-placed, but the flag was up.

City's chances in Europe hinge partly on what comes out of the hat in Friday's draw. Pellegrini will no doubt be watching on with interest.

Nobody at Manchester City could have possibly imagined that reaching the Champions League quarter-finals would be quite this underwhelming. The evening may not have drama, but for City fans this is a fantastic night and hopefully a step towards European glory.

Sterling replaces Silva for the final few minutes. The job is done.

A Kiev free-kick drifts through to Hart and this game is drifting towards its conclusion.

Aguero takes down a lofted pass with an exquisite touch and then Cruyff turns away from two defenders to open up the Kiev defence. The only disappointment is that his final pass is slightly too heavy to put Silva clean through, but it was a magical moment that has lit up an otherwise dreary evening in Manchester.
76'
A Kiev cross into the box causes chaos in the City defence and three attackers look on in disappointment as the ball drops to the one City player who read the danger - Zabaleta.
75'
Okay, so it hasn't actually got much better since half-time, but with 15 minutes remaining I think we can quite confidently say that City are going to be in the Champions League quarter-finals... and that is what really matters tonight.

Yarmolenko clips in a cross, but there's nobody there and Hart watches the ball sail behind for a goal-kick. Kiev are uninspired and rapidly running out of time.

Toure shoots from the edge of the box but his effort is straight at the keeper. He was completely unmarked there and had time to pick his spot, so no wonder he hangs his head in disappointment.
