Five minutes until kick-off in Lviv, where Xabi Alonso will be making his 100th Champions League appearance. It will hopefully be a milestone marked with goals, Bayern's last two away games in the competition have produced 13 of them.

Bayern are overwhelming favourites for this tie, and with good reason. Shahktar won only two games in the group stages, both against BATE Borisov and scored 12 of their 15 goals against the team from Belarus. However, their visitors have won just one of their last five knockout games in the Champions League, drawing two and losing two.

This is only the third time Shakhtar have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League. Tonight's game will be the first time these two sides have met in any competition.

Bayern go into the game eight points clear at the top of the Bundelsiga and on the back of an 8-0 win over Hamburg. Pep Guardiola said: "Now we can focus on our first Champions League game this year. I am happy that our playing style is back. Obviously the mood in the team is now much better. If we play below our level we can be knocked out by Shakhtar."

Due to Ukraine's winter recess, Shakhtar have not played a competitive game since December, and face Bayern without Brazil international Bernard. Coach Mircea Lucescu, said: "We will be heroes if we beat Bayern and qualify for the next stage. Our last competitive game was ten weeks ago, and you all know about the conditions we have been working under this season. Almost everyone will tell you that Bayern are going through, especially after their 8-0 win in the last league match. We need victory more than ever before with regard to the situation we are experiencing, for our supporters in Donetsk."
