Stocker tries a drilled ball from the left flank for Basel, but it's cut out.

Eto'o makes space on the left and looks for the cross, and wins a corner. They take it quickly, but Hazard loses it on the edge of the area.

Quite pedestrian so far. No clear chances created, and no real rhythm to the play.

Streller tries to make ground down the left, but a combination of Ivanovic and Van Ginkel stops him.

Luiz tries a long ball looking for Van Ginkel, who makes a run beyond Eto'o but it's too long for him.

Chelsea having problems breaking their opponents down - Basel are pressing them hard whenever they get to withing 30 yards from goal. Could be a frustrating evening.

Willian wins a corner, takes it himself, short to Oscar, but the cross is blocked at the near post.

Salah tried to latch onto a through ball on the Basel right, but Ashley Cole cuts it out and plays back to Cech.

Lampard's corner is better this time, but Luiz is beaten in the air. Basel counter attack, but Salah is brought down clumsily by Van Ginkel.

And Willian chips in again, this time winning a corner after his cross from the right is blocked.

Willian makes his first contribution in a Chelsea shirt, laying off to Oscar, but his compatriot can't control it, again.

Lampard takes the corner but it doesn't beat the first man. Lampard picks it up again but Oscar can't control his low cross.

Quiet first couple of minutes, but Oscar manages to win a corner on the right for Chelsea.

Basel will kick off.

In theory Eden Hazard will play on the left, Willian on the right with Oscar between them, but expect this Chelsea forward line to switch around a fair bit.

The teams are out on the pitch, and the atmosphere is building.

Eto'o has just been introduced to the crowd at Stamford Bridge. Imagine, if you will, telling someone in 2009 that Chelsea would have Torres and Eto'o in their ranks.

Basel are in decent form coming into this one - they've won five of their last six in all competitions. Just so you know.

Chelsea are undefeated in 29 group matches at Stamford Bridge over the last ten years. Impressive.

Jose Mourinho wants to right the wrongs of last season, which he of course would like us to point out had nothing to do with him: "We made history by winning it two seasons ago. Last year we made history by being the only champions eliminated from the group stage after six matches, and we ended up in a competition we didn't want to play in."
