Jones fells Ronaldo in the middle of the park and the Madrid man wins a free-kick.

Rafael loses possession 30 yards from his own goal - very unwise to say the least - but he makes amends with a good diving header to clear from a cross.

Ronaldo has the ball with his back to goal following a pass from Khedira and he spins quickly before firing a low effort into the gloves of De Gea.

United with a corner and Lopez looks unconvincing before Jones sends a header looping harmlessly over the bar.

Welbeck throws himself at a cross from the left and then Lopez is forced to touch the ball away when it comes in from the right. Madrid under pressure early on.

HALF TIME. Welbeck put United in front but Ronaldo's header was even better to bring Madrid back level. It's been a breathless first half, with Madrid well on top.

RONALDO HEADS WIDE! Coentrao puts the ball in and it actually comes off the shoulder of the forward as he challenges Jones for the ball.

Van Persie heads down at the back post but Rafael snatches at his shot and sends it high into the stands. It has been a tough evening for the Brazilian.

United win a corner late in the first half...

Madrid feed Ronaldo in the box and though he twists to try and work space he can't get a shot away.

MADRID GO CLOSE! Ronaldo fizzes a shot over the bar from 20 yards as he looks to inflict more damage on United.

De Gea fumbles a shot at the near post but Benzema can't take advantage.

MADRID WANT A PENALTY! Di Maria embarks on a thrilling run and goes to ground under minimal contact from Jones. It looked a bit risky from United but play goes on. They were shoulder to shoulder.

Rafael fouls Ozil on the byline and it's a free-kick to Madrid, and a booking too.

CHANCE FOR MADRID! Ozil pulls the ball back after finding space to the left of the box and Ronaldo tries to flick it inside the far post with the back of his heel. It's blocked though.

Ozil peels off Evans to meet a long ball over the top of the defence but his shot from a tight angle is parried wide by a fine save from De Gea. Madrid fail to make anything of the corner.

In comes the corner from Van Persie and he finds Rooney at the back post. However, he gets under the ball and sends it high into the air.
