Poor weather in Bavaria saw heavy snowfall in and around Munich on Friday and Saturday. That meant that travel into and out of the city was heavily affected, with flights and trains cancelled. Transport in the city is also reduced meaning that Bayern Munich and Union Berlin fans would have struggled to attend Saturday's match, which has now been postponed.

‘No more words’ – Tuchel runs out of superlatives for Kane after Bayern Munich brace

Bayern Munich’s home Bundesliga game with Union Berlin on Saturday will not go ahead as scheduled after heavy snowfall made travelling impossible.
The amount of snow has resulted in flights and trains being cancelled into and out of the city, with Bavarian transport heavily affected.
Fans who were already in the city could not be guaranteed transport to the Allianz Arena, and there would be no guarantee that the pitch would be playable.
Bild reporter Tobias Altschaffl confirmed the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, writing: “Due to the weather chaos throughout Bavaria and especially Munich, FC Bayern's game against Union Berlin is about to be cancelled. Discussions are currently underway and a decision will be made soon.”
Bayern themselves later confirmed the news.
Bayern's statement read:
"Bayern’s Bundesliga game against Union Berlin, originally scheduled for 15:30 CET today at the Allianz Arena, has been postponed due to heavy snow overnight.
"The snowfall is also not forecast to end until Saturday evening. Even if it had been possible to get the pitch at the Allianz Arena in a condition that would have allowed the match to go ahead by the afternoon, safety risks and the traffic situation made cancellation unavoidable.
"Snow falling from the roof at the Allianz Arena poses an incalculable risk for spectators. In addition, it is almost impossible to get to the stadium. Countless buses and trains are cancelled, many roads and motorways are completely closed, the underground line U6, which runs to Fröttmaning and the Allianz Arena, has been suspended.
"The Munich police recommend that people do not leave their homes. Under these conditions, it cannot be guaranteed that the necessary security personnel will be able to reach the Allianz Arena.
"FC Bayern will provide information on the rescheduling of the match as soon as a new date has been agreed with the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL). Tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled match.
"CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen: 'We very much regret that we have to postpone the match, but the safety of our fans and the supporters of Union Berlin has absolute priority. In addition, access to the Allianz Arena is not guaranteed due to numerous road closures and various public transport cancellations. We will inform you about a possible new date as soon as possible.'"
Bayern currently sit second in the league, two points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
Union Berlin are the Bundesliga's bottom side, with just seven points from their opening 12 matches.
For Thomas Tuchel’s men, it is a chance to take some rest ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt next week.
There is no confirmation yet for a new date for Bayern’s match with Union.
