The Bavarians are in arguably the most competitive of the groups in this year's Champions League, Group A, alongside Manchester City, Napoli and Wednesday night's opponents Villareal and Rummenigge is aware of the importance of avoiding defeat in such a closely matched pool of teams.
Jupp Heynckes' team travel to Villareal's El Madrigal stadium and despite this being one of the more difficult places to travel in European football, the 55-year-old Bayern chairman is extremely focussed on picking up the points.
"We have a clear target: we want to progress to the round of 16. We have to hit the ground running and concentrate hard," he told the club's official website.
"It's a whole new ball game. We're in a very tough group and we can expect high-octane, difficult matches. We need at least a point. We can't afford to lose, or the pressure will be on straight away.
“If you draw away from home in this group and win your home games, you'll have a good chance of making the last 16."
The legendary German striker went on to suggest that it is the home of his side's first opponents, La Liga, that holds the strongest clubs in Europe currently.
"Barcelona and Real Madrid are definitely ahead of Villarreal, but Spanish football is the gold standard at the present time.
"Let's take it one step at a time. The priority is to reach the last 16. We're all well aware the final is in Munich, but let's take care to ensure our dreams don't turn to nightmares."
