Owomoyela injury blow

Werder Bremen defender Patrick Owomoyela will be out of action for several weeks after suffering a thigh muscle injury in a friendly match.

The club confirmed that Owomoyela, 27, was injured in the 6-0 win over VfL Oldenburg yesterday.

"The news is not good regarding Owo," coach Thomas Schaaf told the club website. "He is out with a suspected muscle tear.

"This would already be of concern but because of the pre-season he will miss he probably won't return until two or three weeks into next season.

"Our injury list is already quite big, we're pretty unfortunate at the moment. But I hope it eases up soon."

Germany international Owomoyela is a first choice defender for Werder and also has 11 caps for the national team.
