Ademola Lookman scored the only goal as Nigeria edged out Angola to book their place in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.

The Atalanta winger struck four minutes before half-time in Abijdan, turning in Moses Simon's cross to book a last-four date with either Cape Verde or South Africa.

Bidding to reach their first semi-final, Angola made a bright start and were denied in the fourth minute when Stanley Nwabali kept out Mabululu's close-range volley.

However, it was Nigeria who hit the front in the 41st minute. Simon skipped away from Kialonda Gaspar's sliding challenge and squared the ball for Lookman to fire into the roof of the net.

Angola almost responded just before the hour mark. Substitute Zine latched onto Show's throughball and beat Nwabali, only to see his first-time shot bounce back off the post.

Although VAR denied Victor Osimhen, whose header from Lookman’s free-kick was chalked off for offside, the Super Eagles held out to secure their passage into the semi-finals.

Angola send a hopeful ball into the box from the right flank, but Nwabali collects and is understandably in no rush to resume play.

Nigeria are almost there.

As the clock continues to tick down, Nigeria make another couple of changes.

Osimhen and Lookman make way to be replaced by Onuachu and Omeruo.

The Nigeria striker, who has not stopped moving all game, appears unable to carry on.

He leaves the field on a stretcher and the Super Eagles will ready a substitute.

That is how long has been added on for stoppage time.

Will Nigeria hold on, or can Angola force a dramatic equaliser?

With time running out for Angola, Luvumbo steps inside and lets fly from 25 yards out.

His effort is an ambitious one, but Nwabali still has to push it away to safety.

He does so very calmly, too, controlling the ball on his chest before finding a team-mate.

The Super Eagles are briefly down to 10 players as Onyeka is stretchered to the touchline.

The midfielder appears fine to continue and his manager is shouting at him to return to the field.

Suddenly, Nigeria can counter with Lookman leading the charge.

He feeds Osimhen, who cleverly skips inside Gaspar to make space for the shot.

However, the Angola defender recovers brilliantly to deflect his eventual attempt away from goal.

There is also activity on the Nigeria bench as Iwobi is given a breather by Peseiro.

Yusuf comes on in his place.

Angola turn to the bench and Bela is introduced for the final 12 minutes in place of Eddie.

Nigeria think they have doubled their lead advantage as Osimhen meets Lookman's free-kick, and Signori is only able to help his powerful header in off the post.

However, a VAR check rules the Super Eagles striker strayed fractionally offside before the free-kick was taken.

There is hope for Angola yet.

Dala is the latest player into the book, the Angola winger receiving a yellow card for tripping Aina.

Nwabali's long throw is chased by Osimhen, who beats Gaspar to the ball.

Although, the Angola defender accidentally catches the Nigeria striker in the face with his boot, and goes into the book as a result.

Goncalves looks to inspire Angola as he introduces two substitutes.

Paz and Luvumbo enter the action for the final quarter of the game with Fredy and Gilberto making way.

Nigeria counter with Simon leading the charge and laying the ball off for Onyeka to cross.

However, Buatu is alert and clears the danger.

The Super Eagles are awarded a free-kick 25 yards from goal, and slightly right of centre.

It suits the left foot of Sanusi, whose attempt is on target and Signori has to get across to hold onto it.

Nigeria look to respond to that scare and Sanusi finds Simon, who cuts inside onto his right foot.

Although, the Angola defence stands firm to block his attempt on goal.
