Primoz Roglic confirmed for Giro d'Italia and Tour de France double as he eyes further glory in Grand Tours in 2025

Primoz Roglic is set to ride the first two Grand Tours this season, as confirmed by Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe sporting director Enrico Gasparotto. Roglic is a former Giro winner who has also won the Vuelta a Espana four times, but the Slovenian has yet to win the Tour de France. He will face a tough task to do so this season, with defending champion Tadej Pogacar in fine form.

Last year's Vuelta a Espana winner Primoz Roglic is set to line up for the Giro d'Italia next month, before taking on the Tour de France.
Having moved teams last season, Roglic managed to deliver a famous success for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe in the Vuelta, clawing back a huge deficit to Ben O'Connor to win the red jersey for the fourth time in total but the first time for Red Bull.
But now the five-time Grand Tour winner seems to have his eyes set on a different jersey - the only one he has yet to win, the Maillot Jaune.
Red Bull's sporting director Enrico Gasparotto has been chatting to Bici.pro about Roglic's season. The Giro is next up, where Roglic should resume his rivalry with Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) having beaten the Spaniard recently at the Volta a Catalunya.
"Catalunya is not the Giro," Gasparotto explained. "The Giro lasts three weeks and is a race that historically has a thousand pitfalls, even more than the Tour.
"It has many medium-hard stages where you can never give up... and this is the beauty of the Giro. We respect everyone, Ayuso and [the others] but as a team and with a rider of Roglic's calibre, we only think about doing our 'homework' well to arrive at the appointment in the best possible way.

'It is incredible’ - Roglic delighted to secure Vuelta for fourth time

"We are obviously studying the variables in the various stages, we do analyses on the opponents, on the weather…"
Roglic has raced twice so far in 2025, finishing eighth at the Volta au Algarve before winning the Volta a Catalunya.
He has often targeted two Grand Tours in a season - whether that be the Giro followed by the Vuelta, or the Tour then the Vuelta.
And given his success in the latter and the fact he seems to ride himself into form as the season wears on, it is no surprise that many are wondering if the Giro or the Tour is the bigger target for the Slovenian this season.
"I remember that after the Giro, Primoz has the Tour de France," Gasparotto continued.
"It is not the first time that he has done doubles. When we analysed this double commitment over the three weeks, Roglic always won the second race, basically the Vuelta.
"Only that in that case we were at the end of the season, after the Tour instead it is still long. And at the end of the season, there is a very tough World Championship, suitable for climbers."
But in that case, is Roglic going to the Giro to ride himself into form for a tilt at success in France, or to try and claim a second victory in Rome?
"I told you before, Roglic is going to win and not to finish second."
The Giro d'Italia begins on Friday 9 May in Albania, with every stage live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
