Rain ruins start of England's T20 World Cup defence as Scotland clash is abandoned after just 10 overs

The weather was the winner as England got the defence of their T20 World Cup underway. Only 10 overs were possible in Barbados, as persistent rain eventually forced their clash with Scotland to be abandoned. Jos Buttler's side were asked to bowl first after losing the toss, and their opponents reached 90 for 0 before another shower put pay to any hopes of a result.

After all the hype, the wet Barbados weather intervened to ensure England could not make a sparkling start to their T20 World Cup campaign.
Jos Buttler's side are looking to defend the title they lifted in Australia in 2022.
But persistent rain showers meant their clash against Scotland was eventually abandoned, with only 10 overs possible at the Kensington Oval.
It was the first meeting between the two rivals since 2018, and Richie Berrington had elected to bat first after winning the toss.
The two sides eventually took to the field after a significant rain delay, which was lengthened due to water getting under the covers.
When proceedings finally got underway, Scotland made a strong start through openers George Munsey and Michael Jones, with the former given a reprieve when he was caught off a Mark Wood no ball.
Another shower came after 6.2 overs with 51 runs on the board, and that forced the match to be reduced to 10 overs a side.
When the weather improved, Scotland returned to reach 90 for 0, with Munsey finishing unbeaten on 41, eclipsed by an excellent 45 not out from 30 balls from Jones.
However, as the teams trudged off, the heavens opened again, and that proved terminal, with the match eventually abandoned.
Each team takes one point from the game.
Scotland move on to face Namibia at the same venue on Thursday, while England's next assignment is against arch-rivals Australia, also in Barbados, on Saturday.
