Tickner four-fer and nerveless Mitchell condemn England to series defeat
New Zealand beat England by five wickets, with more than 16 overs to spare, to claim the best-of-three ODI series and once again punish Harry Brook’s tourists for a lacklustre batting display.
Blair Tickner, playing in his first ODI for 29 months, claimed four wickets as England were bowled out for only 175 having been inserted in Hamilton.
Joe Root, Harry Brook and Jamie Overton were the only England batters to reach 20 runs. Overton’s 42 off 28 balls was the pick of the innings, while Brook’s run-a-ball 34 was ended by a brilliant diving catch from Will Young.
Tickner’s figures of 4-34 are his best in List A cricket and earned player-of-the-match honours.
Jofra Archer struck in the first over of the New Zealand chase, pinning Young plumb LBW for a duck, but Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra stabilised the chase.
Williamson was out for 21, bowled by Overton, but Ravindra had passed 50 and New Zealand 100 before he fell to the excellent Archer for the third wicket.

Adil Rashid dismissed Tom Latham LBW and Archer had Michael Bracewell caught behind to reduce New Zealand to 118-5 and apply some pressure.
At this point, Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner counter-attacked to brilliant effect.
With Archer bowled out, they scored 59 runs off the next 5.1 overs to reach the target – taking 17 off one Rashid over to break the back of the chase.
Mitchell ended unbeaten on 56, New Zealand’s highest scorer just as in the first game.
The final game of the series is due to be played in Wellington on Saturday, before England’s attention turns to the Ashes.

Tickner named player of the match
Tickner, the four-wicket hero, says he only found out last night at a barbecue that he would be playing.
A "drinks-carrying holiday" was his expectation for this late call-up before reading a text message, but he is keen to share the praise for the New Zealand bowling performance.
"Obviously taking early wickets is the way it goes, so the boys up front did well and I just sort of continued the job off. It was a good bowling performance all round form everyone," he says.
Performing in front of his family is "pretty special, so shout out to them for driving up for me," Tickner adds.
Tickner's figures were his best ever in List A cricket.

Here's how the action unfolded...
New Zealand win by five wickets!
An edge down to third man off the bat of Mitchell does it. New Zealand have won fairly comfortably in the end, by five wickets and with 16.5 overs overs to spare. They have also clinched the series.
Mitchell finishes unbeaten on 56, while captain Santner is 34 not out.
New Zealand 173-5 (Mitchell 52, Santner 28) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 33
Santtner gives himself room and smears a short ball over the off side for four. He tries the same again, toe-ends it, and gets two.
An odd wide – called despite Santner edging the ball – adds to Overton's woes, before Santner smashes the last ball of the over back over the bowler's head
New Zealand are now three runs from victory. Three is also the number of wickets Archer took today, and for any England fans in need of a silver lining you can watch the third of those wickets below.

New Zealand 158-5 (Mitchell 51, Santner 21) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 32
Santner helps a loose ball over fine leg for six, followed by a short-arm jab through midwicket for four. Carse leaks 12 runs, including a no ball, though the free hit only goes for one.
New Zealand now 18 runs away.
New Zealand 146-5 (Mitchell 51, Santner 10) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 31
Santner launched Rashid over his head for six. It's a huge blow, with premeditation working a lot better for Santner than it did Latham, whose wicket you can see below.
'He'll be filthy with himself' - Latham makes mess of reverse sweep

Two deliveries later, Mitchell repeats the trick, albeit a far flatter hit. Then he steers a reverse sweep for four to bring up a nerveless half-century.
A huge over – 17 runs off it – and New Zealand are now just 30 runs from victory.
New Zealand 129-5 (Mitchell 42, Santner 3) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 30
Carse fills the end Archer was bowling from. Santner and Mitchell play him well, taking now risks and picking up for valuable runs.
New Zealand 125-5 (Mitchell 39, Santner 1) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 29
Rashid concedes seven runs, for of them via a commanding Mitchell sweep, and New Zealand only need 51 now.

New Zealand 118-5 (Mitchell 33, Santner 0) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 28
Archer is now bowled out, but he's been brilliant. Ten overs, four maidens, three wickets for 33 runs. England are back in with a chance and you can see his wicket of Ravindra below.

Wicket! Bracewell c Buttler b Archer 5
Archer strikes with his final delivery and gets a slice of luck he has earned, as Bracewell knicks a leg-side delivery and is caught by the wicketkeeper.
New Zealand 114-4 (Mitchell 33, Bracewell 1) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 27
Bracewell gets off the mark from his 10th ball, and it is New Zealand's first run in 20 deliveries. Rashid follows up with a wide and there are just two runs from the over.
Darkness is starting to fall over Hamilton at the same time that a real contest is breaking out.
New Zealand 112-4 (Mitchell 33, Bracewell 0) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 26
It's another maiden, this time from Archer. He is bowling very well, but has just one over left. New Zealand are aware of this fact and content to see Archer off, you feel.
New Zealand 112-4 (Mitchell 33, Bracewell 0) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 25
It's a wicket maiden from Rashid and the pressure is back on New Zealand all of a sudden. Bracewell, the new batter at the crease, is yet to get off the mark.
The Black Caps are halfway through their overs, but it's hard to imagine this going the distance whoever wins.
Wicket! Latham lbw Rashid 2
A premeditated reverse sweep goes awry for Latham and he's plumb LBW. He's no interest in a review and is walking. England, just maybe, have some hope again.
New Zealand 112-3 (Mitchell 33, Latham 2) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 24
An outside edge for four annoys Archer but goes down as runs off the bat of Mitchell. New Zealand need 64 runs from 156 balls.
New Zealand 107-3 (Mitchell 29, Latham 1) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 23
The Rashid over goes for only two runs, but New Zealand will be happy to have seen it off.
New Zealand 105-3 (Mitchell 28, Latham 0) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 22
It's a second wicket maiden for Archer. His performance looks like being the one shining positive for England today.
Wicket! Ravindra c Rashid b Archer 54
Archer drops short and Ravindra pulls hard, but hits the ball straight down the throat of Rashid on the boundary. Ravindra's impressive innings is over, but 54 runs off 58 balls looks like being a match-winning knock, barring a late collapse.
New Zealand 105-2 (Ravindra 54, Mitchell 28) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 21
Ravindra hits back-to-back fours to bring up his 50 and New Zealand's century. A sweep, then a straight cut.
Eldeven runs come off the Rashid over and New Zealand are now motoring towards the target of 176.

New Zealand 94-2 (Ravindra 44, Mitchell 27) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 20
Ravindra crunches an overpitched ball through the covers and to the boundary. It brings up the 50 partnership and is the highlight of an Archer over which goes for six, though more importantly for New Zealand does not yield a wicket.
New Zealand 88-2 (Ravindra 39, Mitchell 26) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 19
Five runs off the Rashid over and this partnership is up to 46 runs from 43 balls.
England need some magic and are turning to Archer.
New Zealand 83-2 (Ravindra 33, Mitchell 23) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 18
The Overton over goes for eight runs, with Ravindra hammering the last ball back down the ground for four. Overton had beaten him with a cutter just before, but let off the pressure by bowling too full.
The number of runs New Zealand require is into the doubles figures and now just 93.
New Zealand 75-2 (Ravindra 31, Mitchell 21) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 17
Rashid enters the attack and manages to find one leading edge, but New Zealand treat him with respect and manage to milk the over for four runs.
New Zealand 71-2 (Ravindra 29, Mitchell 19) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 16
England have a half-chance as Mitchell drops and runs a touch too close to the bowler for comfort, but Overton's flick at the stumps is off-target. Had Overton's throw hit the stumps, Ravindra would have been out.
Ravindra flamboyantly pulls a short ball for six to close the over – a stark contrast to how Bethell was out pulling the first ball after a drinks break in the England innings.
New Zealand 63-2 (Ravindra 22, Mitchell 18) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 15
Mitchell plays the shot of the day, a glorious, aerial straight drive back over the bowler's head for six, one ball after edging for four. From the fortunate to the sublime.
New Zealand's run rate is now up to 4.20, with only 3.22 required.
Time for a drinks break, so here's Sir Alastair Cook, part of the TNT Sports team in Australia for the Ashes, to tide you over.

All three T20 matches and all three ODIs between New Zealand and England will be live on TNT Sports and

New Zealand 51-2 (Ravindra 21, Mitchell 7) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 14
The Black Caps half-century is brought up in the 14th over, as each batter claims a single.
New Zealand 49-2 (Ravindra 20, Mitchell 6) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 13
Mitchell's unbeaten 78 was crucial in New Zeland's chase last game, and he's carried that touch into the one. After five balls of a tidy Curran over, he stands up tall and bludgeons the final delivery back where it came from for four runs.
New Zealand 43-2 (Ravindra 19, Mitchell 1) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 12
Overton thinks he's got a wicket with his first ball as Williamson wafts at one on his hip, but the umpire shakes their head. England review and the bat did not hit the ball, any noise was off Williamson himself. England have now lost all their reviews.
However, two singles later, he does get the wicket.
Wicket! Williamson b Overton 21
Overton strikes in his first over! He gets a cutter to jag back and Williamson can only edge onto his own stumps. Just as New Zealand threatened to be cruising, England have hope again.
New Zealand 40-1 (Ravindra 18, Williamson 20) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 11
Curran comes into the attack and concedes four to a nice drive, but follows it up with a great delivery which beats Ravindra and – narrowly – the stumps.
Ravindra responds with another lovely drive, straight this time, for four more. First round of a good battle goes to the batter.
New Zealand 32-1 (Ravindra 10, Williamson 20) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 10
Ravindra pulls a short ball confidently for his first boundary, then drops one and runs. Great batting given the circumstances.
Williamson tickles one to third man, where a full-stretch Archer saves two runs but grimaces and folds over afterwards. Not a sight England fans want to see, but they'll hope he's just winded.
Williamson adds four more with a lovely drive to finish an excellent over for New Zealand.
New Zealand 21-1 (Ravindra 5, Williamson 14) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 9
Williamson plays a beautiful on-drive for four after Archer overpitches. They are the only runs of the over.
The current run rate is 2.33, and the required rate 3.77. There's plenty of time for New Zealand, if they're able to keep wickets intact.
How to watch the Ashes
England's bid to win back the Ashes for the first time in a decade will be shown live and exclusively on TNT Sports this winter. Every ball will be shown across TNT Sports and

New Zealand 17-1 (Ravindra 5, Williamson 10) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 8
Carse gets one delivery to leave Ravindra, but it misses everything en route to the wicketkeeper. Four runs, three off the bat, off the over.
New Zealand 13-1 (Ravindra 3, Williamson 9) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 7
Another probing maiden from Archer, who induces one play and miss before coming even closer off the final ball. Williamson edges off the bottom of the bat – very late on a cut shot – but the ball doesn't quite carry to Buttler.
New Zealand 13-1 (Ravindra 3, Williamson 9) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 6
Williamson opens the face and punches a drive behind square for New Zealand's first boundary. A single off the last ball completes the scoring off the Carse over.
New Zealand 8-1 (Ravindra 3, Williamson 5) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 5
Archer gets one to nip back and strike Williamson on the back leg, but it was heading well over the stumps.
Williamson takes just a single off the over. England had three slips in, plus a gully, and are on the attack.
New Zealand 7-1 (Ravindra 3, Williamson 3) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 4
Williamson gets off the mark with a push into the off side for two, and adds a single.
The required rate is only 3.67, so these's plenty of time to absorb pressure if New Zealand so decide.
New Zealand 4-1 (Ravindra 3, Williamson 0) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 3
Three runs off the over – two from the toe end of Ravindra's bat, one for a wide ball.
Ravindra didn't look as troubled as Young was before being out, but batting does not look easy right now.
New Zealand 1-1 (Ravindra 1, Williamson 0) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 2
Ravindra scores New Zealand's first run, but Carse backs Archer up with a tidy over.
New Zealand 0-1 (Ravindra 0, Williamson 0) Target: 176, Overs bowled: 1
A wicket maiden to start the New Zealand innings. Archer is back with a bang.
England also appeal for LBW from the final delivery and review after it's given not out, but that proves a correct call. Williamson was beaten and struck on the pad, but the ball was going over.
Wicket! Young lbw Archer 0
Archer strikes fourth ball! It's full, straight, hits the front pad and Young does not even bother to review.
Here come the teams
Archer will bowl the first over, with Young and Ravindra opening the batting for the Black Caps.

All eyes on Archer when England bowl
Rested for the first ODI and T20 series as England manage his pre-Ashes workload, it will be Archer's first match action since September 12. Somewhat under the radar, he has become one of England's most available bowlers this year.
While obviously integral to any hopes England have of defending 175 today, he also figures to be a key contributor come the Ashes. So a first glimpse of Archer bowling in antipodean conditions will doubtless have tongues wagging.
It's also his first time facing New Zealand in an ODI since the 2019 World Cup final.

Tickner finishes with the best figures
He wasn't in the squad to start the series. Now Tickner has figures of eight overs, one maiden, four wickets for only 34 runs. Best-ever List A figures.
It's his first ODI in 29 months, following impressive domestic performances which came in the wake of family strife. He spoke in the lead-up to this game about what playing in front of his two-year-old daughter, wife – who is now in remission after treatment for leukaemia – and father, whose house was destroyed by a cyclone, would mean. You have to imagine those figures exceeded his expectations.
All Out! England 175 (Archer 2*)
It's a familiar story for England, only this time Brook cannot save their blushes. Wickets have fallen consistently all innings. Just three batters – Root, Brook and later Overton – have reached 20 runs and New Zealand, having had a chance to see how the pitch is behaving, will need just 176 to win.
It's the 10th time in the last 16 times England have batted first in ODIs that they have been all out.
Wicket! Rashid c Bracewell b Ticker 9
Rashid pulls a short ball and is excellent caught by the catcher at short midwciket.
England 175-9 (Archer 2, Rashid 9) Overs: 35
Rashid fetches one from outside off and launches it over the boundary at cow corner. That's some shot, and he adds a single off the last ball of the over.
How to watch the Ashes

England 168-9 (Archer 2, Rashid 2) Overs: 34
England have survived long enough for New Zealand to have to choose which of the two balls – one being used at each end – they want to now utilise from both ends until the conclusion of this innings.
Wicket! Overton c Santner b Tickner 42
Oh dear, curse of the live-text commentator. Tickner bowls short, Overton miscues a pull and edges to mid-off, where New Zealand's captain takes the catch.
England 165-8 (Overton 42, Archer 1) Overs: 33
Archer patiently plays out a Santner maiden. Sticking around so Overton has more opportunities to whack the ball at the other end feels like the smart move.
England 165-8 (Overton 42, Archer 1) Overs: 32
A second wicket for Tickner and Archer is back in the middle a lot earlier than he would have been expecting. And he's off the mark first ball with a clip off the legs.
Wicket! Carse c Mitchell b Tickner 3
Tickner bounces Carse, who takes it on and holes out to Mitchell on the boundary. It was an awkward stroke and got what it deserved.
England 162-7 (Overton 41, Carse 2) Overs: 31
Santner has changed ends and is back into the attack. First ball he's appeaing for LBW, and though the umpire says no, New Zealand's captain reviews. Impact outside the line saves Overton – good call on the field.
Overton slaps the next through the covers for four and adds a single, with Carse scoring one off the final delivery to make it a run-a-ball over.
Meanwhile, here's the terrific catch to dismiss Brook. And remember, you watch this match live right now on TNT Sports and
discovery+.
England 156-7 (Overton 36, Carse 1) Overs: 30
Overton powerfully pulls for four, then pulls the next ball for six. Neither were very short, but he picked the length quickly and let the long levers do the rest. He's batting on a different pitch to the rest of the England team, it seems, and now his side's highest scorer.
Thirteen runs off that over, tied for the most this innings.
England 143-7 (Overton 24, Carse 0) Overs: 29
Two runs and a wicket in that Bracewell over. And now the seamers are back, Tickner will bowl the next six balls.
Wicket! Curran b Bracewell 17
Bracewell strikes with a beauty! Releasing from wide on the crease, it drifts in, pitched on off stump, straightens and hits the top of off. Curran is thoroughly beaten.

England 141-6 (Curran 16, Overton 23) Overs: 28
Curran picks up the length of a drag-down quickly and pulls it into a gap for four, after Overton fetches a wide delivery and hits it back past Santner for a one-bounce four.
Sloppy over from a New Zealand points of view and 10 runs come off it.
England 131-6 (Curran 11, Overton 18) Overs: 27
More aggression from Overton, this time coming down the crease and playing an awkward, one-handed drive which has just enough on it to beat mid-off. England add five from the over.
England 126-6 (Curran 9, Overton 15) Overs: 26
Overton will not go quietly and launches Santner over cow corner for six. The batters add a single each – Overton's from an agressive drive stopped on the boundary.
England 118-6 (Curran 8, Overton 8) Overs: 25
Overton cuts Bracewell away for his first boundary, then is beaten all ends up by the next ball which stays low and beats the edge, as well as the wicketkeeper.
We're halfway through the allotted overs and it's unquestionably advantage New Zealand. They keep taking wickets and are into the all-rounders already.
England 109-6 (Curran 5, Overton 3) Overs: 24
Overton is the new batter, with England in real bother.
Wicket! Brook c Young b Santner 34
Young takes a brilliant catch and New Zealand have the big wicket they craved!
Brook slashes at a wide one, but a flying Young takes a one-handed catch and point. Brook departs for a run-a-ball 34.
England 105-5 (Brook 34, Curran 4) Overs: 23
Bracewell gets the ball, so it's spin from both ends now. England treat him with caution and after a Brook single from the first ball, Curran cannot get any away.
England 104-5 (Brook 33, Curran 4) Overs: 22
Brook sweeps a Santner drag-down for six and it brings up England's hundred. Another better over for teh tourists.

‘Timing’s everything’ – Cook on how England can exploit Australia’s cracks
Video credit: TNT Sports
England 93-5 (Brook 25, Curran 2) Overs: 21
Brook dismissively pulls a short ball to the boundary, also adds a couple of twos and edges one onto his pads for a single. Eight runs from the over.
England 84-5 (Brook 16, Curran 1) Overs: 20
Santner brings himself on and concedes only three runs in the over.
As well and England needing another Brook rescue act, this is a big chance for Curran – only recently back in voguewith the coaching ticket – to show his worth.
England 81-5 (Brook 14, Curran 0) Overs: 19
Plenty of short stuff from Smith in that over, before Buttler was caught out by the final delivery.
Once again, England need Brook to save them.
Wicket! Buttler 8 lbw Smith 8
Buttler is caught on the crease and wrapped on the pads by a delivery coming back in. Up goes the finger!
He reviews immediately, but the impact is in-line and it's umpire's call on the wickets, so that's all she wrote. Lovely bowling it must be said, though Buttler is livid.
England 76-4 (Brook 11, Buttler 7) Overs: 18
Brook charges Tickner and golfs the ball over the covers for four. Three deliveries later, and having been beaten by an awkward-length ball, Buttler picks up a shorter one and launches it over the leg-side boundary. It's well caught in the crowd, for good measure.
These two look to be launching a counter-attack. Brook spoke at the toss of trying to put pressure on the bowlers and get them off their lengths – this is what that looks like.
England 65-4 (Brook 6, Buttler 1) Overs: 17
A single each after the wicket. All four of the New Zealand bowlers used have now picked up a wicket.
Wicket! Bethell c Foulkes b Smith 18
First ball after the drinks break, Bethell holes out. He takes on a short ball which doesn't crack head height, does not get all of it, and Foulkes has to jog in from the boundary to take a fairly routine catch.
Such a soft dismissal, after working hard to get in.
England 63-3 (Bethell 16, Brook 5) Overs: 16
A Bethell pull shot lands just short of Young on the boundary. That was a nervy moment for England, who bat deep but are a bit too close to the all-rounders for comfort, given it's the 16th over.
Just one run from it – Tickner has started really well – and the run rate is now a measly 3.94.
It's time for a drinks break, so here is a video of Ticker's first wicket.
England 62-3 (Bethell 17, Brook 5) Overs: 15
Brook gets off the mark with a textbook cover drive. A sprinkling of singles and England take seven from the over.
England 55-3 (Bethell 15, Brook 0) Overs: 14
Brook is almost the victim of a super catch – but not quite. He advances down the wicket, drives in the air and a leaping Santner gets one hand on the ball though cannot hold on. Still, he saved four runs as Brook does not even scamper a single and is yet to get off the mark.
Just one run from another effective Tickner over. Will Brook make New Zealand pay for the drop?

England 54-3 (Bethell 14, Brook 0) Overs: 13
Smith comes into the attack and allows only three runs off his first over.
Brook defends his first and so far only ball and the run rate is down to 4.15, but we know Brook is capable of increasing that sharply if he gets going.
England 51-3 (Bethell 11, Brook 0) Overs: 12
Just two runs off that Tickner over, and the wicket came after a couple of balls marginally down the leg side were not given wides, apparently to Root's frustration. He played more deliberately at the third, to diestrous consequence.
Enter England's captain.
Wicket! Root c Latham b Tickner 25
Ticker, playing his first ODI for 29 months, gets Root first over!
Root tickles one down leg and Latham takes a smart catch. What a moment for Tickner, recalled after a couple of years studded by family strife, and what a wicket to claim.
England 49-2 (Root 24, Bethell 10) Overs: 11
A maiden over. Brilliant from Duffy, who is not giving the batters room and getting the ball to climb on them.
England 49-2 (Root 24, Bethell 10) Overs: 10
Just two runs off the Foulkes over, despite some attacking intent shown by Root.
At the end of the first powerplay, England are going at fewer than five an over, for the loss of both openers.
England 47-2 (Root 22, Bethell 10) Overs: 9
Still no bowling changes, so Duffy is into his fifth over. It's a tight one, just two runs off it.
England 45-2 (Root 21, Bethell 9) Overs: 8
Thirteen runs off that over, including two boundaries. First, Root pulls a short ball down and to the boundary. Second, Bethell violently cuts behind square and the ball races away.

England 32-2 (Root 16, Bethell 1) Overs: 7
After a wicket from the last ball of Foulkes' over, England show caution against Duffy.
Singles apiece for Root and Bethell – who runs the ball down to third to get off the mark – plus a wide.
Wicket! Smith c Williamson b Foulkes 13
Smith attempts to launch another fulldelivery over the leg side, but it straightens and he sends a leading edge skyward instead. The ball is swirling in the wind, but Williamson is a safe pair of hands underneath it. An innings which promised much is over after 17 balls.
England 26-1 (Smith 13, Root 12) Overs: 5
A more sedate over, just one run off it.
England 25-1 (Smith 13, Root 11) Overs: 4
Smith pulls a short delivery well in front of square for his first boundary. It's a lovely shot, and a few balls later he plays one even better, picking up a full delivery and dispatching the ball over square leg with dismissive flamboyance.
For someone out first ball last game, he looks in brilliant form.
England 13-1 (Smith 2, Root 10) Overs: 3
Root hits England's first boundary, clipping a full delivery off his legs, then creams a drive through the covers. Consider the ship steadied already.
Wicket! Duckett c Latham b Duffy 1
Duffy gets Duckett with the first ball of the third over!
A feathered edge through to the keeper, pushing forward, and Duckett – who never looked comfortable – must walk.
England 3-0 (Smith 2, Duckett 1) Overs: 2
Foulkes takes the second over and has the ball shaping away from the left-hander, who does not look comfortable.
Duckett sends one leading edge ballooning up, but it lands short of mid-on. Next ball he gets off the mark with an outside edge to third man. Smith looks more comfortable and is also off the mark.
England 0-0 (Smith 0, Duckett 0) Overs: 1
A maiden over first up.
Tidy, tight and every ball bar the last one a good length from Duffy. Smith isn't troubled and tries to drive the last ball, which is a tad fuller, through the covers, but picks out a fielder.
It's go time
The players are making their way out to the square now. England's opening pair of Duckett and Smith are a classic combination – both a left-right duo and a little man, big man. You could forget Smith being a little nervous, however, after a diamond duck last time out.
Duffy will bowl the opening over, with Henry absent.

New Zealand win the toss and will bowl
Captain Mitchell Santner says "it looks like a good wicket" and inserts England, having won the toss. With the potential for rain later, that choice is no surprise. Tickner for Henry is the only New Zealand change from the first ODI.
"We'd have had a bowl as well, feel like there's going to be a little bit in it [the pitch] to start with," says the England skipper, Brook. He also announces one change, with Jofra Archer in for Luke Wood, which is "awesome".
"He's obviously a very valuable asset for us – bowls high pace with extreme skill – so it's good to have him back in," adds Brook. Archer has not played an ODI against New Zealand since the 2019 World Cup final.

A wet outfield delays play
The toss is yet to happen because of a wet outfield, but the weather in Hamilton is not too bad and you can even see some blue sky poking through the clouds. The mat used for the toss has been brought down to the field, where a few England bowlers are warming up, so hopefully it is imminent.
Some early team news – Blair Tickner will play for New Zealand, after Mat Henry was ruled out with a calf strain.
Hello and welcome...
You are very welcome to live coverage of the second ODI between New Zealand and England in Hamilton. After a heavy defeat in game one,
despite the heroics of captain Harry Brook, England cannot afford a misstep if they’re to win the best-of-three-games series.
The start was due to be 15 minutes away, at 1:00am GMT, but unfortunately rain has delayed the toss and this match will not start on time.
