Bangladesh defeated Pakistan for the first time in Test history as they secured a 10-wicket victory in Rawalpindi on Sunday afternoon.
Pakistan had posted 448-6 before declaring in their first innings, as Mohammad Rizwan made 171 not out, and Saud Shakeel’s 141 saw the pair put on 240.
The visitors responded with their own effort of 565 all out to take a commanding lead.
Mushfiqur Rahim struck 191 off 341 balls to spur them on to a lead of 117. Shadman Islam assisted with 93, with Mominul Haque, Litton Das and Mehidy Miraz all adding half centuries.
While the game might have been looking likely to head for a draw, Pakistan’s collapse in the second innings saw them all out for 146.
Mehidy and Shakib Al Hasan starred as spin dominated the day as their seven wickets ripped through Pakistan's batting.
The collapse left a target of 30 for the victory.
Bangladesh handled that with no trouble, as Zakir Hasan and Shadman knocked off the runs in short order for a famous win, just the third overseas Test win in seven years.
For Pakistan, it continues a poor run of form at home, without a win since February 2021, including five draws and four losses.
The second test begins in Karachi on Friday, August 30, with England set for a three-Test tour of Pakistan in October.
