Terence Crawford beats Canelo Alvarez - Undisputed super-middleweight title changes hands in Las Vegas as Bud secures historic victory

Live updates as America's Terence Crawford beat Canelo Alvarez to grasp the undisputed super middleweight championship in Las Vegas. Undefeated now five-division world champion Crawford moved up two weight classes to take on boxing great Alvarez, inflicted just a third defeat on the Mexican and grab the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF and WBO titles at the Allegiant Stadium.

Crawford makes history with excellent victory

Terence Crawford staked a strong claim to be the fighter of his generation with an undisputed points victory over Canelo Alvarez.
Crawford was awarded the contest by the three judges: 116-112 and 115-113 (twice).
Long-time welterweight champion Crawford, after one title-winning fight at light middleweight, came up another stone in weight to face the Mexican and wrest away the undisputed super-middleweight crown.
After a feeling out first round, when it looked like Alvarez’s powerful body shots might slow him down, Crawford dominated the fight initially winning moving away from the Mexican, but as the right went on he was increasingly happy to plant his feet and land his trademark hooking combinations.
The expected physical disparity between the two fighters never seemed a factor with Crawford’s chin comfortably taking Alvarez’s right hands and earning respect with the power of his own combinations.
In the final round as Alvarez looked for a big round to turn the fight in his favour he had to take a big left uppercut then two more flurries in the final ten seconds. Ultimately this effort in the final round - and quite possibly those final moments - were crucial to ensuring he won the fight, rather than it being scored a controversial draw.
Crawford becomes the first fighter in history to hold the lightweight world title and move up to grab the super-middleweight crown.

Bud unsure over future

Terence Crawford is unsure of whether he will continue fighting after securing the undisputed super middleweight crown.
"I've got to sit down with my team," Crawford said.
"Canelo's a great champion. I have got to take my hat off to him. I've got nothing but respect for him."
"I'd just like to say thank you to all the supporters, thank you to all the haters."

Crawford wins on points!

The American takes victory on the scorecards 116-112 and 115-113 (twice).

Alvarez-Crawford: Round 12

Crawford ends the fight with repeated three-punch combinations to surely rubber stamp his victory. Alvarez` landed some righthands, but more often was made to reset after missing and had to absorb blows from his opponent, including one uppercut which rocked his head back. What a performance from Crawford.

Alvarez-Crawford: Round 11

Canelo had some good moments in the round landing straight right hands, but Crawford took the shots well and responded with intermittent combinations.

Alvarez-Crawford: Round 10

Alvarez lands some good body shots and single right hands, but Crawford also got through with flurries himself on a couple of occasions.

Alvarez-Crawford: Round 9

There was a great start to the ninth round, with Crawford landing an explosive flurry and Canelo firing back with right hands. An accidental headbutt opened cut above Crawford's eye but, after a pause, he resumed and landed another couple of big combinations.

Alvarez-Crawford: Round 8

Alvarez is struggling to land anything clean and Crawford looks confident staying in range and fighting. At the end of the round Canelo put out his glove and Crawford rejected the offer of respect.

Alvarez-Crawford: Round 7

Another good round for Crawford. He seems more comfortable being in the firing line now. And when Canelo trapped him in a corner he fought his way out of it.

Alvarez-Crawford: Round 6

Crawford putting on a tremendous boxing display, mixing up multiple shots to head and body and looking very happy in there. One left hand with his back to the ropes snapped the Mexican's head back. Canelo's face is puffing up a bit.

Alvarez-Crawford: Round 5

Alvarez with the better shots in this round with Crawford looking a little wary of throwing the combinations he did in the last round.

Alvarez-Crawford: Round 4

A super uppercut-left hook-right hand combination from Crawford early on certainly got Alvarez's respect. Soon afterwards, Canelo cornered the Omaha fighter and landed a right hand but the smaller man took it well. The Mexican lands a couple of more right hands, including one on the bell which saw Crawford lose his balance for a moment. It is a tremendous fight.

Alvarez-Crawford: Round 3

Another Crawford round though you feel the fight is just waiting for Canelo to land upstairs and to see what might be the result of that. It feels Crawford is using a lot of energy, but at the moment it has him in front.

Alvarez-Crawford: Round 2

Crawford throwing a few more punches early, it feels out of necessity to keep Canelo off. Canelo not really attempting jabs, just waiting to land left hooks or right hands to the body. Crawford responding with nice looking hooks and straight lefts. Crawford's round that.

Alvarez-Crawford: Round 1

Quiet opening but int he last minute or so, Alvarez lands to the body and with straight rights upstairs. Crawford gets through with a few pawing jabs, but that's Canelo's round.

Huge ovation for Alvarez

Boos for Crawford (and Turki Alalshikh). Canelo chomping his jaws when he was announced, Crawford looked impassive.

Let's get ready to rumble...

Chills every time.

Trumpets herald Canelo's entrance

A band all wearing sombreros provide accompaniment as the legendary makes his way to the ring.

Bud enters the ring

Guitar case left outside - that was a strange quirk. A touch of the Jeff Jarrett's.

Crawford enters the arena with a guitar case!

What is going on?

Here we go....

Tool perform a little number before a Mexican group delight many in the crowd with a jaunty tune.

Main event is next...

The talking will soon stop and the action will begin.

Walsh wins clear decision!

He takes the fight 99-91 (twice) and 100-90 - scores that seem too wide, but for the right fighter.

Walsh-Vargas: Round 10

Vargas tried to bring the heat but Walsh's fundamentals ensured he avoided most of his opponent's shots and used the aggression to get through with shots of his own.

Walsh-Vargas: Round 9

Heading into the final round, Vargas needs a knock out. His corner are imploring him to come out firing.

Walsh-Vargas: Round 8

The superior conditioning could be making the difference. Walsh comes on strong in the final 30 seconds of each round. Vargas certainly needs a big last six minutes.

Walsh-Vargas: Round 7

Stop me if you've heard this one before..but Walsh's activity just give him the advantage here. They both land similar amount of quality shots, but Walsh lands more inbetween.

Walsh-Vargas: Round 6

There was less action in this round but a flurry from Walh at its conclusion, including a low blow, might have got him the 10-9 here.

Walsh-Vargas: Round 5

Another tight round with Vargas landing some good straight shots inside of Walsh's winging arsenal, but the Irishman more active overall. Vargas is told by the referee one more low blow will see him be deducted a point.

Walsh-Vargas: Round 4

Vargas looked like winning this round, catching Walsh flush with straight lefts, but as it wore on Walsh began to win the exchanges again.

Walsh-Vargas: Round 3

Although Vargas lands flush a couple of times, he is being totally outworked by Walsh who shows a good variety of punches with either hand to force his way in control.

Bud taking care of his own hands

Walsh-Vargas: Round 2

If Vargas is not careful the rounds will get away from him just by virtue of Walsh looking more active. There is very little between the fighters and both landed good body shots.

Canelo getting ready for action

Walsh-Vargas: Round 1

Walsh went to ground, it looked like after a jab but the referee ruled it a slip. Walsh the keener to engage of the two.

Next up Walsh-Vargas

Two more undefeated fighters meet as Callum Walsh (14-0, 11 KOs) takes on Fernando Vargas (17-0,15 KOs) in the co-main event.

A draw!

The fight was given Martinez's way 97-93, for Mbilli 96-94 on one card and the third gave it 95-95. You can't really argue with that.

Mbilli-Martinez: Round 10

Neither has left anything in the tank and both deserve a lot of credit for their effort. Both end the fight swinging and landing with big hooks. Mbilli may have just taken it but it would not be a surprise to see a split decision or draw.

Mbilli-Martinez: Round 9

Mbilli is still throwing more but he is stung by Martinez uppercuts and hooks as he ploughs forward. Neitherr fighter saving anything for the last round.

Mbilli-Martinez: Round 8

Mbillli forcing Martinez against the ropes and unloading with a number of shots. Martinez escapes for a while and lands a couple of good shots himself, but is soon back taking punishment.

Mbilli-Martinez: Round 7

Martinez upping his workrate in this round and landing a number of hurtful shots to the body as well as uppercuts upstairs. He is warned for leading with his head on two occasions though.

Mbilli-Martinez: Round 6

Martinez slipped touching the canvas but it was not ruled a knockdown. Martinez looks to be feeling the pace of the fight now, though he remains very dangerous and happy to let his hands go.

Mbilli-Martinez: Round 5

Whether they have the tools to get to the top might be one still up for debate, but they are certainly showing they have the chin to take so many shots from each other.

Mbilli-Martinez: Round 4

Very like the earlier contest between Adams and Bohachuk, the fight is all action and pretty even, with neither able to put a dent in the other. That said, Mbilli is landing more.

Mbilli-Martinez: Round 3

Neither look like taking control of the fight. Martinez probably landing cleaner shots but Mbilli's superior strength could be important as the rounds go on.

Mbilli-Martinez: Round 2

The fight being fought at close quarters which makes it seem brutal but maybe helps each fighter absorb the others' shots as their work is a little smothered.

Mbilli-Martinez: Round 1

Both are launching punches with bad intentions. Mbilli is more accurate but each are having some success. They exchange shots after the bell.

Someone's O has to go

An intriguing fight between the very highly rated Christian Mbilli (29-0, 24 KOs) and Lester Martinez (19-0, 16 KOs). The interim WBC title is on the line but the platform for them to present a case to be the next big thing is even greater.

The main eventers are in the building

Alakel wins on points

He takes the fight 99-91 (twice) and 98-92 and his record improves to 6-0.

Alakel-Crawford: Round 10

A bit of a messy last round but a clear win for Alakel.

Alakel-Crawford: Round 9

Crawford exploded in the last moments of the round putting together big lefts and rights which made Akakel uncomfortable.

Alakel-Crawford: Round 8

Only two rounds to go thankfully. The rest of the main card hasn't got to do much to beat this.

Alakel-Crawford: Round 7

Normal service resumed with Alakel busier, taking the round. He threw a couple of nice left hook straight right combinations.

Alakel-Crawford: Round 6

Crawford's best round of the fight with right hands to head and body when Alakel backed up getting him the 10 points.

Alakel-Crawford: Round 5

A cut has opened up above Crawford's left eye but it does not look too much of an issue. Alakel still dominating without impressing.

Alakel-Crawford: Round 4

Alakel planting his feet a little more with his shots now but still doesn't look like getting Crawford out of there.

Alakel-Crawford: Round 3

It feels like you can put the Alakel undisputed decision victory in the books already.

Alakel-Crawford: Round 2

Crawford looking to rush in and close Alakel down but not doing it in a cerebral manner. Alakel picking him off with some eye-catching shots.

Alakel-Crawford: Round 1

Not the most action in the opener, with Alakel mostly controlling the bout from range.

Alakel-Crawford up first

Alakel has featured in most of Turki Alalshik's cards and does so again here. They haven't been great bouts thus far.

Main Card is next!

Saul Alvarez (63-2-2) vs Terence Crawford - Unified super-middleweight title
Callum Walsh (14-0) vs Fernando Vargas (17-0) - 10-round light-middleweight contest
Christian Mbilli (29-0) vs Lester Martinez (19-0) - WBC interim super middleweight world title
Mohamed Alakel (5-0. 1 KO) vs Travis Crawford (7-4, 2 KOs) - 10 round super featherweight contest

Adams wins on points!

He takes the fight 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93 on the three scorecards.

Bohachuk-Adams: Round 10

Adams really putting his hands together well in the round. Mixing shots to head and body, securing the round if there was any doubt beforehand. Bohachuk was still very active but his shots were less clean as the fight were on.

Bohachuk-Adams: Round 9

One round to go and it feels like Bohachuk will need a knockout to take victory.

Bohachuk-Adams: Round 8

Last time they fought, Adams stopped Bohachuk in this round and Adams hurt him again on this occasion, wobbling him with the last of a flurry of hooks a few seconds before the bell.

Bohachuk-Adams: Round 7

Both are enjoying this contest even though they are taking punishment. Again a body shot looked like it hurt Bohachuk, but he also connected with repeated jabs and a right hand which make Adams stumble back in the closing stages.

Bohachuk-Adams: Round 6

Bohachuk landed his best left hook of the night but soon afterwards was caught with a body shot which made him step back and wince. Once more Adams ends the round the better with a big right hand.

Bohachuk-Adams: Round 5

Every round is similar with both landing many shots on the other. Bohachuk with more overall and more jabs, but Adams with more power shots.

Bohachuk-Adams: Round 4

Action packed again but Adams' flurry with repeated hooks to head and body in the last 20 seconds maybe shifted the round his way.

Bohachuk-Adams: Round 3

It is hard to see this going a full ten rounds with both breathing heavily and taking shots. Which one will prevail? It feels like Bohachuk still.

Bohachuk-Adams: Round 2

Both landing lots of punches still. Adams maybe landing more big shots, but you get the impression Bohachuk's shots are having a little more effect - especially his right uppercut which Adams always seems open to.

Bohachuk-Adams: Round 1

More action in this round than the previous ten in the ring! Adams forcing the fight and landing good shots, especially the left to the body. Bohachuk getting through himself with high right hand whenever there was space between them.

Feature Prelim next...

The last fight before the main card sees Serhii Bohachuk (26-2, 24 KOs) take on Brandon Adams (25-4, 16 KOs) in a rematch. Adams shocked Bohachuk stopping him in eight rounds four years ago.

Dychko wins unanimous decision

He takes the fight on all three cards: 97-92, 97-93 and 95-94.

Dychko-Franklin: Round 10

Difficult to score the last round. You would think Dychko would just win on points but really neither fighter deserves to see their hand raised.

Dychko-Franklin: Round 9

You'd give the round to Franklin but he looks unlikely to get his opponent out of there - with just one round now remaining.

Dychko-Franklin: Round 8

Dychko got a point deducted and was hurt by a body shot early on and then a couple upstairs later in the round.

Dychko-Franklin: Round 7

Duchko looks fatigued and Franklin landed a couple of big right hands. The fight looks there for Franklin to win.

Dychko-Franklin: Round 6

Both fighters' corners are imploring for more from their fighters, to little avail.

Dychko-Franklin: Round 5

Boos from the crowd. Franklin is back in the fight (if you can call it that) now though. He has outlanded Dychko up to this point. 37-34.

Dychko-Franklin: Round 3

Dychko winning every round but not too impressive so far. Franklin has the habit of doing this to fighters though, even when not in fighting shape.

Dychko-Franklin: Round 2

A quiet round, Dychko has only been past the third round once - it looks like he will be here again.

Dychko-Franklin: Round 1

A competitive if slow-paced opener, Dychko landing with some crisp right hands to the body and head, with his left hand used more as a guide than a jab. Franklin lands some jabs himself.

Heavyweight clash coming up

Former Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte opponent Jermaine Franklin (23-2, 15 KOs) takes on rising contender Ivan Dychko (14-0, 13 KOs).
Franklin took Joshua and Whyte the distance, though he does not look in as good shape tonight.

Both looked good on the scales
