Immediately following his March 9 defeat of Josip Jalusic, Oakey, 23-2 (5), was clear on his future plans and Peter Oboh 14-5 (12), in particular.
"I have always been ready for the Oboh fight," said Oakey. "I am more mature now and I am so much better since I have been with [my new trainer] Johnny Eames. I knew that if anything went wrong tonight it would damage my belief and my opportunity to defeat Peter Oboh, the British champion."
Nothing went wrong for Oakey and his large group of vocal supporters who chanted &lsquoOakey Kokey" throughout his 59-55 defeat of Jalusic.
Oakey moved to London as he "felt the change would do me good" and is unbeaten in four fights since moving to the capital.
"If I don"t beat Oboh I don"t see anywhere I can go," Oakey said. "No disrespect to him but he hasn"t fought for close to two years, and he is maturing in age! I have really been looking forward to 2007 and being a busy champ and I want to make my first defence in Portsmouth."
