It was a day of mixed fortunes for the Norwegians. While Frode Andersen was finally back to his top form, Alexander Os was given a two-minute penalty for omitting to go on the penalty loop after missing a target.
Shame for the 25-year old as he had set an amazing time of 25 minutes and 25 seconds flat, which would have been good for the win. Os was just over 20 seconds faster than master Ole Einar Bjoerndalen.
Bjoerndalen, who skied exceptionnally fast despite two shooting errors, set the best time as he crossed the line but could not hold off his two compatriots.
Andresen managed for once to keep his composure and find the target with an 100% accuracy. Compatriot Berger stayed in contention for the win until the stand shoot where a mistake made it impossible for him to make up for the lost ground.
Germany will be a strong contender for tomorrow's relay as Sven Fischer and Alexander Wolf sneaked in third and fourth place to deny Norway a famous triple.
The most disappointing performance of the day was for France's Raphael Poirée who finished 18th and will want to regroup to lead France for tomorrow's relay.
