World Athletics Championships recap - Day 8 updates where KJT won bronze in the heptathlon and Britain and Jamaica failed to make Men's 4x100m final

Anna Hall ran away with heptathlon gold with Katarina Johnson-Thompson sharing the bronze medal with Kaliyah Brooks. Max Burgin came sixth in the 800m final where Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyony held on for victory. The relay heats saw the USA crash out of the Men's 4x400m and Jamaica and Britain's last-change fiascos cost them a place in the Men's 4x100m final

The day will be most remembered for the relay shambles that saw Britain fail to qualify for the Men's 4x100m finals. Jamaica also missed out dropping the baton in the earlier heat.

Elsewhere, Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya won the 800m holding off Algeria's Djamel Sedjati and Marco Arop of Canada in a thrilling finish. Max Burgin was back in sixth.
Kenya also had success through Beatrice Chebet, who completed the long distance double, sprinting ahead to take the Women's 5000m.
In the decathlon, Kyle Garland of the USA takes a big lead into the second day.

WANYONYI WINS FROM THE FRONT
It looked like he was going to be taken on the final straight, but Emmanuel Wanyonyi showed the strength to hold on, just in front of Algeria's Djamel Sedjati and Canada's Marco Arop - who took the lead briefly in the race for home. Cian McPhillips came close to a medal in fourth with an Irish record, while Max Burgin - slightly checked by Spaniard Mohammed Attoui 50m from the line - ended up in sixth.

800M IS UNDERWAY...
Can anyone stop the Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi?
14:21
ANGULO WINS WOMEN'S JAVELIN
Ecuador's Juleisy Angulo produces her best ever throw, 65.12, to win ahead of Latvia's Anete Sietina and Mackenzie Little of Australia.
14:18
BURGIN LOOKING FOR 800M MEDAL NEXT...
Britain have not won a medal in the men's event since Peter Elliott in 1987.
14:16
DECATHLON STANDINGS AFTER DAY ONE
  • 1. Garland (USA) 4707
  • 2. Skotheim (NOR) 4543
  • 3. Owens-Delerme 4487
  • 4. Neugebauer 4455
Puerto Rico's Ayden Owens-Delerme moves into the bronze medal position after a superb 46.45 in the 400m.

14:14
SKOTHEIM CLOSES IN A LITTLE
But his time of 47.86, finishing in fourth, will not pull Garland much back to the pack. Neugebauer ran less than half a second quicker than the American.
14:06
GARLAND BACK IN FOURTH
Not his best time, 48.73 but his best in a decathlon.
14:04
GARLAND GOES IN SECOND HEAT
His closest rivals Skotheim and Neugebauer go in the third with the fastest 400m runners.
13:53
DECATHLON 400M NEXT ON THE TRACK
They might as well hand the gold to Garland if, as expected, he extends his lead here.
13:45
CHEBET WINS 5000M!
She completes the long distance double again, her compatriot Kipyegon finishes in second, with Battocletti taking bronze.
Nuttall finishes in a creditable eighth place.
13:42
NO MOVES YET WITH TWO LAPS TO GO...
Almost all the athletes still in it.
13:30
5000M UNDERWAY....
13:24
WOMEN'S 5000M NEXT
This could be one of the races of the competition with 10,000m champion Beatrice Chebet looking to repeat her Olympic long distance double, with Gudaf Tsegay battling to retain her World title.
Hannah Nuttall runs for Britain, but only Kenyans Agnes Jebet Ngetich and Faith Kipyegon look capable of challenging the top two.
13:16
HALL SECURES GOLD, O'CONNOR SECOND, KJT JOINT BRONZE
Hall won with a fantastic run, KJT produced her best run of the season to draw level with Brooks for third place.
13:08
HEPTATHLON 800M ON THE TRACK SHORTLY
Gold is out of the question, surely, for fourth-place Katarina Johnson-Thompson but she is a better runner than Kate O'Connor and Taliyah Brooks above her in the standings.
Anna Hall, the best 800m runner on paper, will surely only extend her lead at the top.
13:04
SCHILDER WINS SHOT PUT WITH DRAMATIC SIXTH THROW
It looked like America's Chase Jackson had taken gold with her last throw of 20.21, but Netherlands athlete Jessica Schilder produced a 20.29m to snatch top honours.
12:56
BRITAIN THROUGH IN THIRD
The United States won convincingly, with Germany coming through to pip Britain in second place. Canada and Poland finished next and will be in the final as fastest losers.
12:48
TEAM GB IN SECOND HEAT
Surely they can get the baton around safely. If they do, they should progress.
12:48
JAMAICA WIN EASILY
Spain finished second, with France third. Australia did not finish and Italy were way behind after their first runner Vittoria Fontana seemed to injure her hamstring.
