Agata disappointment

At the World Weigtlifting Championships in Vancouver, China's Meiyuan Ding set a world record in the snatch and swept to three gold medals in the women's over 75 kg category. Poland's Agata Wrobel finished a disappointing seventh.

The current Olympic champion set the 9th world record of her career with this lift of 137.5 kilos. A world record attemp in the clean and jerk failed, but her total of 300 kilos also equalled her own world record.
Albina Khomich took world gold two years ago and silver last year, and it was to be silver again for the Russian as the European champion set a personal best of 160 kilos in the clean and jerk for a combined total of 290 kilos.
18 year old Olha Korobka also set a personal best to win bronze with a total of 277.5 kilos. 152.5 in the clean and jerk bringing overall silver for the young Ukranian.
But for the defending champion and Eurosport favourite, Agata Wrobel of Poland could only finish seventh.
Meanwhile in Vancouver, this morning's action for the men has been the 105kilogramme categroy and Saif Assad has taken overall gold.
The former Bulgarian is now representing Qatar and the Olympic bronze medallist took silver in the snatch and added a clean and jerk of 227.5 here for the overall gold with a total of 422.5 kilos.
Former world champion, Russian Vladimir Smorchkov took silver overall.
This lift of 195 kilos was good enough for gold in the discipline and his overall total of 417.5 kilos earned the Russian the silver.
Bronze went to Turkey's Bunyami Sudas. The winner of the silver two years ago, his strength is the clean and jerk. 230 kilos was good enough for silver in the discipline and helped Sudas to overall bronze.
