FISU DAY 10 RECAP: USA Dominates Swimming, Athletics Thrills with New Champions

Day 10 of the FISU World University Summer Games 2025, Germany, was an entertaining show of talent as athletes continued to compete fiercely for a win. Team USA continued to dominate in the pool, while athletes from various nations made their mark in track and field events.

In swimming, the standout performances were led by Francisca Soares Martins of Portugal, who won gold in the women’s 400m freestyle. Daniel Troxell Diehl from the USA triumphed in the men’s 200m backstroke, adding another gold to Team USA’s impressive tally. Emma Lebron Weber also from the USA captured gold in the women’s 100m breaststroke.
Matthew Carl King of the USA excelled in the men’s 50m freestyle, while Tess Olivia Howley won gold in the women’s 200m butterfly. Maxine Charlize Parker joined her teammates in claiming gold in the women’s 50m freestyle. Team USA capped off a fantastic day in the pool with victories in both the women’s and men’s 4x100m medley relay events.
The athletics events brought breaking performances from various nations, with Katherine O'Connor of Ireland winning gold in the women’s heptathlon. Aiden Smith from South Africa captured gold in the men’s shot put. Eloisa Coiro of Italy triumphed in the women’s 800m, while Filip Ostrowski from Poland secured gold in the men’s 1500m.
In sprinting, Vittoria Fontana of Italy won gold in the women’s 200m, while Bayanda Joy Walaza from South Africa triumphed in the men’s 200m event. Tatsuki Abe of Japan captured gold in the men’s 110m hurdles. Ozlem Becerek of Turkey won gold in the women’s discus throw, while Jonathan Kapitolnik of Israel triumphed in the men’s high jump.
Alice Murano from Italy achieved gold in the women’s 400m hurdles. Shu Heng of China won gold in the men’s long jump, adding to the excitement of the athletics events. Team Poland also celebrated as they claimed gold in the mixed 4x400m relay.
