Jannik Sinner brushed Alejandro Tabilo aside to reach the quarter-finals of the Canadian Open in Montreal. The Italian, currently sat at world No. 1, came through comfortably in straight sets, 6-4 6-3. He is bidding for a fifth title of the season as he prepares for the US Open. In Toronto, Aryna Sabalenka was shocked by Amanda Anisimova in the women's tournament, falling at the last 16 stage.

Aryna Sabalenka exited the Canada Open at the quarter-final stage after she was beaten in straight sets by Amanda Anisimova in Toronto.
The Belarusian, who in June opted not to play at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in order to prepare for the American hard-court swing, has now not reached the final of either tournament she has played since the grass-court season.
The current world No. 3 had previously pulled out of Wimbledon just hours before she was meant to face American Emina Bektas in her opening round, and she forfeited her quarter-final in Berlin against Anna Kalinskaya at 5-1 down with a shoulder injury.
But in Toronto, she was defeated in straight sets by a spirited American on the other side of the court, Anisimova, who herself did not feature in Paris at the Olympics.
Instead, she played at the Citi Open, dumping out compatriot Sloane Stephens in the round of 32 following a successful qualifying stage, and she then beat seventh seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the next round, although she was beaten by Caroline Dolehide in the last eight.

The 21-year-old took her first top ten scalp in nearly two years as she defeated Sabalenka, the second seed, in just under an hour and a half.
She saved five break points in the first set, before closing out the match winning five consecutive points to set up a clash with Emma Navarro, the 11th seed, in the semi-finals.
The draw has opened up kindly, after Coco Gauff, the top seed, was upset by Diana Shnaider in the last 16.
The winner of Navarro and Anisimova will face either Jessica Pegula, Peyton Stearns, Liudmila Samsonova, or Shnaider in the final, with those four playing later on Saturday night.
Sinner sweeps past Tabilo into quarters
In the men's draw over in Montreal, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner continued his strong return to the court after he was absent from the Olympics with tonsillitis.
He came through Chilean Alejandro Tabilo 6-4 6-3, setting up a tasty last-eight encounter with Andrey Rublev, the fifth seed, who romped past Brandon Nakashima 6-2 6-2.
"Tricky opponent, tricky conditions," Sinner said afterwards.
"It is difficult playing against this type of player. Huge lefty, big potential. I had to be very careful, looking a lot to make the game. It felt like a good match. I know in my mind I have to play one more time [today], so there is not much time to be happy and recover. I am happy to play again later."
Alexander Zverev, the Roland-Garros finalist and second seed, beat Danish prodigy Holger Rune 6-3 7-6(5), while Sebastian Korda's excellent form continued as the new Citi Open champion beat one of Andy Murray's Paris 2024 doubles conquerors Taylor Fritz in straight sets 6-4 7-6(4).
