There’s been a big shake out on the front with what was a 42-man group having been whittled down to around 15 riders thanks to some sustained pacing from Armirail and Foss. And here’s Carapaz, preparing himself for the summit and the KOM points.

Derek Gee-West, who was in the break, is now back pulling the peloton in a bid to reduce the gap for his team-mates Juan Ayuso and Mathias Skjelmose, whose positions in the top 10 are under threat from Lenny Martinez.

Bruno Armirail sets the tempo in the break with Tobias Foss on his wheel. They have dropped the likes of Yates, Bennett and Tiberi, and are holding the gap above four minutes.

The break has started the Cat.2 Col d’Ornon, which is 5.4km at 6.4%. Many riders have been dropped from this group, including Ben O’Connor, Alex Baudin and Mads Pedersen. It’s down to around 25 riders but they still have 4’20” on the pack.

The Frenchman has been dropped by the break so it’s unlikely he will add any more KOM points to his name today. Has he done enough to keep the polka dot jersey? It depends on how Messieurs Pogacar and Carapaz fare on the next two climbs.

Also dropped from the break are the North American duo of Matteo Jorgenson and Derek Gee-West, both of whom have worked hard for their team-mates in the move today.

It’s another 25 points for the Dane, who now leads Jasper Philipsen by 57pts in the battle for green. It should be enough – especially with the stage to Paris no longer a pure sprinter’s stage thanks to the addition of those three loops up the Butte de Montmartre.

Another tactical and physical masterclass from Pedersen and his Lidl-Trek team there. He has all but secured the first green jersey win in the Tour to complete his clean sweep of points jerseys in cycling’s major stage races.
