The British number one was steamrolled 6-1 6-2 by world number 65 Monica Niculescu, with the 26-year-old’s hopes of reaching the WTA Finals in Singapore looking doubtful.
Konta’s game was littered with errors – 38 in total – as she was dispatched in 65 minutes.
She has won just two matches since her run to the Wimbledon semi-finals and racked up a fifth consecutive loss for the first time since 2009.
