The Italian shocked the tennis world by making the recent Roland-Garros final, where he lost to Alexander Zverev.
And at the first attempt to try and take that momentum into his grass-court campaign, he succeeded by eking out a four-set win over his dogged Argentinian opponent.
Cobolli cut an exhausted figure at the end of the encounter, and surprised fans with a candid and at times jovial interview.
"Now, I completely hate my life," he said, smiling. "It's always like this, always run, always fight. Now I'm just happy to reach the second round, I played against an amazing player, so I'm really happy how I managed my game and my difficult moments.
"Also because it's not easy to come back and play again after a night, so I didn't sleep so well. My mind was still on Tuesday, so I'm just happy and looking forward for the next round now."
Then, seemingly in jest, he added: "I just want to break something now.
"I need to hit something. I think I will hit my Dad now. For sure, it's the first person that I will hit. I still don't know with what, but we will see tomorrow if he has a black thing on the face."
Cobolli became something of a fan favourite at Roland-Garros, with an engaging, all-court style and a relaxed demeanour that saw him warm up with a fan on Court Philippe-Chatrier the day before his final against Zverev.
And the Italian, whose best run was to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon - which he reached last year, losing to Novak Djokovic - appears to be bringing his personality to SW19 too.
Cobolli takes on Australia's James Duckworth in his second-round match on Thursday on Court 3.
