Lorenzo Musetti reaches a Grand Slam semi final for the first time in his career.
The 22-year-old, who had never gone beyond R4 at a major until this year’s Wimbledon, serves out to 15 to clinch an impressive victory over No.13 seed Taylor Fritz in three hours and 27 minutes.
The No.25 seed Musetti will now face seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in Friday’s semi final.

Musetti blocks the returns and slices his way to two more break points.
Fritz tries to erase the first with a dart to the net for the volley but the Italian adjusts on the run to slice a backhand pass down the line and pocket the insurance.

That is marvellous!
Fritz will rue a forecourt forehand miss into the net at 40-30 but from deuce it’s all about Lorenzo as he works his way to break point with a stonking return off a hefty serve.
The Italian then saves the best until last, unleashing a huge forehand that paints the outside edge of the line to leave Taylor looking dejected.
Musetti then rattles through a love hold and consolidates with aplomb.

Musetti is put under the microscope as Fritz looks to rush him and move forward more regularly now.
The Italian is pretty much bullied to 30-30 but throws down a pair of aces to produce a winning hand and scamper to an important hold.

Fritz goes on the attack with a deep, crosscourt forehand to apply some early heat.
Musetti gets a slice of luck at 0-30 with a net cord that catches Taylor out and he ends up smashing long on the stretch.
The American No.1 ups the ante further with a brilliant backhand return down the line to conjure up two break points and although Musetti saves one with an ace, he lashes an overcooked forehand long to drop serve at a crucial moment.

Taylor is doing a much better job of taking care of his own business in this set and a clean hold of his own ensures he has the edge on the board heading into the business end of the proceedings.

Taylor finds the gear marked ‘clutch’ at 0-40 with a couple of huge serves and a beastly smash to make deuce.
Musetti carves him open with a superb dropper with more strokes of that artistic wand to create a fourth opening, but Taylor booms a forehand down the line and then plays his get-out-of-jail card with a massive wide serve to somehow avoid the break.

It’s much more solid from the American No.1 as he finds the first serve and dominates another game to 15 with the plus one.
The No.13 seed is definitely thinking more clearly now and when Musetti lulls he sizzles a return to his feet that clocks up break point.
The Italian responds in magnificent style, following up a low slice with a lob volley that catches the baseline.
A big serve sees him take charge from deuce and it’s ultimately disappointment for Fritz on this occasion.

Taylor needs to hit reboot, clear his head of all of that negativity and take the advice of his team to make more forays to the net.
He kicks off with some strong serving, guiding away a lovely volley and blasting a crushing backhand that’s too hot to handle en route to a game to 15.
Musetti is still riding the wave of momentum that has put him within sight of the last four and he rampages through a clean hold to quickly ease on to the board in reply.

Given how this set has transpired, it’s perhaps no surprise to see Musetti come out on top in one of the points of the match as he glides to his right to conjure up a volleyed pass on the move.
The No.25 seed has had so much joy with the slice that he deploys it again at 15-15 to lure an inevitable forehand long and from there it’s routine as the Italian hits the front.
