Daniil Medvedev was made to wait to book his passage into the Wimbledon third round, but he got there in the end by completing a win against Adrien Mannarino. The third seed was forced into a delay because of darkness on Thursday night but returned to the courts on Friday morning to finish the job. Holger Rune and Matteo Berrettini also booked spots in the third round at SW19.

Third seed Daniil Medvedev made it safely through to the third round of Wimbledon on Friday after winning his disrupted match, while Holger Rune and Matteo Berrettini also progressed.
Bad weather caused chaos and postponements in the opening few days at SW19 and Medvedev’s clash with Adrien Mannarino was then delayed because of darkness falling on Thursday night.
The world No. 3 made up for lost time, however, by cruising past the Frenchman in straight sets on Friday morning, winning 6-3 6-3 7-6(5).
Medvedev already had a comfortable two-set lead to lean on when play restarted, but Mannarino forced a tie-break as he looked to find a way back.
But Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, claimed an early mini-break and didn’t look back from there as he saw out victory to set up a clash with Marton Fucsovics next.
No. 6 seed Rune also notched a straight-sets victory in the second round, beating Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain 6-3 7-6(3) 6-4.
The 20-year-old Dane, making only his second main-draw appearance at Wimbledon, produced eight aces and 45 winners to overpower his opponent.
He needed to fight back from a break down in the first and third sets, showing determination to wrestle back the momentum.
Up next for Rune is a clash with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina or Botic van de Zancschulp.
"It wasn't easy today; he made it very difficult," said Rune.
"He's the type of player who doesn't give you anything for free. So I had to finish the points myself and try to play good. He makes a lot balls.
“I managed to raise my level close to the end and I got unbelievable support from the crowd."
Rune is still relatively new to grass-court tennis, but made the semi-finals at Queen’s in preparation for his second crack at Wimbledon.
Andrey Rublev is also through after he beat David Goffin in four sets winning 6-3 6-7(6) 7-6 (5) 6-2, He will face Alexander Bublik in the next round.
Jannik Sinner also needed four sets against Quentin Halys coming from a set down to win 3-6 6-2 6-3 6-4. He will face Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan next up.
Meanwhile, Queen's runner-up Alex de Minaur bowed out as he lost to the impressive Matteo Berrettini 6-3 6-4 6-4 in the second round.
The Italian, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2021, hit 13 aces and won 88% of his first serve points in a masterful performance that comes despite a mixed, injury-hit season to date.
