British No. 1 Katie Boulter progressed to the second round of Wimbledon while Jodie Burrage and Heather Watson were beaten.
Boulter won her first-round match against Daria Saville which was postponed on Tuesday due to rain.
Boulter came through 7-6(4) 6-2 and is set to play again on Thursday due to the disruption caused by the weather.
Heather Watson was beaten 6-2 7-5 by 10th seed Barbora Krejcikova while Burrage lost 6-0 6-2 on Centre Court to 11th seed Daria Kasatkina and Sonay Kartal lost 6-0 6-3 to Madison Keys.
“I was nervous to play on the best court in the world, it’s a special moment," said Russian Kasatkina, who was unable to play the Grand Slam last year due to the ban on Russian and Belarusian players.
"I felt the electricity inside and it was difficult to handle it but I am happy how I was able to do it.”
Burrage came out with a huge smile on her Centre Court debut but there was little for her to celebrate in a one-sided first set.
Burrage double faulted to hand Kasatkina a break and then dragged a forehand wide as Kasatkina moved 4-0 clear.
Burrage brought up a break-back point with a strong return into the corner, but netted after slipping on the baseline.
Kasatkina held and continued to overpower Burrage with her strong hitting before another double fault at a key moment sealed a bagel set.
Burrage threw her arms up in the air in celebration after getting a game at the start of the second set.
That seemed to galvanise the British No. 2 as she then broke to love.
However, Kasatkina hit straight back as she pressured Burrage’s serve and was rewarded with a break.
A short rain delay took players off court briefly, and when they returned Kasatkina started with a love hold.
Kasatkina’s forehand power and depth continued to cause problems for Burrage, who saved a break point after a brilliant rally but then succumbed when Kasatkina sent her scurrying around the court.
Kasatkina looked in no mood to stick around and after holding, wrapped up a convincing win when Burrage went long with a backhand.
