The Spaniard, the second seed at SW19 due to Roger Federer’s superior record on grass, was largely imperious as he secured a 6-1 6-2 6-4 win.
The highlight came in the second set, when Nadal chased down a looping ball and played a glorious tweener lob which his scrambling opponent could only send into the net.
The final shot, a volley from the Nadal racquet, sparked a mass exodus from Centre Court as spectators raced to watch England's clash with Sweden in the World Cup quarter-finals.
Nadal will meet Jiri Vesely in the last 16.
