Wozniacki arrived at the All England Club with her best chance of winning in years. But the 26-year-old Dane was made to work hard for her win by Timea Babos, who forced the first-round contest to a deciding set.
However, Wozniacki served up her best tennis of the grass court season in the third frame, running out a 6-1 winner to seal her spot in the second round.
Elsewhere, Russian 16th seed Pavlyuchenkova suffered a 3-6 7-6(6) 9-7 defeat to Australian Arina Rodionova in the first round.
Rodionova saved seven match points to shock her opponent, who reached the last eight at Wimbledon a year ago before losing to Serena Williams in straight sets.
Big-hitting American 24th seed CoCo Vandeweghe eased into the second round of Wimbledon with a 7-5 6-2 win over Mona Barthel.

Vandeweghe, who has teamed up with former men's champion Pat Cash, recorded an impressive tally of 30 winners to seal the victory.
There was also a victory for the 23rd seed Kiki Bertens, who had too much class for Romania's Sorana Cirstea.
