In a statement released by the organisers on Tuesday, Agassi said that it was a regrettable decision and that he would miss playing in the tournament.
"Andre Agassi regrets he will have to withdraw from the gentlemen's singles due to injury.
"Mr Agassi says in a fax that it is a regrettable decision and he will miss playing in the most prestigious tournament in the world."
Rumours surfaced he may miss the entire grass season following his first round loss to Finn Jarkko Nieminen at the French Open last month.
Agassi returned to the United States after his exit in Paris to have a second injection to ease him through to the U.S. Open in September.
Women's world number 14 Elena Bovina of Russia has also withdrawn from Wimbledon because of a shoulder injury.
