Carlos Alcaraz defeats Ugo Humbert to reach quarter-finals of Wimbledon with potential Jannik Sinner showdown in semis
The third seed Carlos Alcaraz secured his place in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon on Sunday as he defeated Ugo Humbert of France in four sets on Centre Court. Alcaraz certainly did not have things all his own way, as the 16th seed Humbert produced a very fine performance to provide resistance and even claimed the third set to suggest he could fight all the way back briefly.

Carlos Alcaraz battled past the tough test provided by Ugo Humbert to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon with the defending champion having to find some of his best form.
The 21-year-old, who is in hot pursuit of his fourth Grand Slam title and second crown at the All England Club, sealed a four-set, 6-3 6-4 1-6 7-5, victory over the Frenchman on Centre Court in exactly three hours.
Alcaraz, who arrived in SW19 fresh from his maiden triumph on the red dirt at the French Open, could face top seed and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in a mouthwatering semi-final showdown if both continue their respective runs.
The Spaniard now boasts a very impressive winning streak at Grand Slams with 11 to his tally and counting after he went all the way at Roland-Garros.
He said after the match: "Playing lefties is always tricky, no matter the surface. I played my first leftie at Queen's, so I learnt a little bit from that.
"I felt great playing today, I think I played a really high level and playing a leftie I tried not to think about it and just played my own game.

"I just try to fight for every ball, it doesn't matter which part of the court I am, I just try to run in whichever part of the court I am on, giving myself the chance to stay alive in the point.
"I had to show the opponent that whatever shot he shoots, I will be there. That's me, I will be there, fighting until the last ball, and sometimes it is a good point like this one, and sometimes I lose it, but the main thing is just to fight."
"I just choose the shot when I am going to hit it. I don't think about it beforehand. I like the forehand drop shot, passing shot from the forehand or the lob tweener, that is my favourite shot, so I try to find that in every match."
In the quarter-finals, the world No. 3 will take on either 12th seed Tommy Paul of the USA or compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut.
