Mats Wilander says Coco Gauff will be a dangerous opponent during the second week of the US Open after her straight-sets win against Magdalena Frech. The world No. 3 stormed to a 6-3 6-1 victory despite having struggled with her serve in recent months. Gauff defeated Ajla Tomljanovic in a hard-fought first-round clash before being pushed to the limit against Donna Vekic in the second round.

TNT Sports expert Mats Wilander believes Coco Gauff will be a dangerous opponent in the second week of the US Open after she beat Poland’s Magdalena Frech 6-3 6-1 to book her place in the fourth round.
Gauff won the opener 6-3, but the scoreline perhaps flattered the two-time Grand Slam champion, who let a 3-0 advantage slip before recovering to take a closely fought first set.
The second set was a far more comfortable affair for the world No. 3, who progressed to the second week with relative ease, having previously struggled to beat Donna Vekic and Ajla Tomljanovic in the early stages of the tournament.
Seven-time Grand Slam winner Wilander believes Gauff’s serve will improve as the tournament progresses after she produced just four double faults against Frech.
"Coco Gauff is through to the fourth round," he said after Gauff’s comfortable victory.
"She looks like she is really playing well at the moment, she only had four double faults [during the match], and double faults are what we keep an eye on when it comes to Coco Gauff.

"She is going to fix the serve problem and it is going to be fixed overnight, that’s what I think. I don’t think it is mental as it is technical. I think it is technical with the left hip and she is going to fix it.
"So she will be really dangerous in the tournament because she runs so well at Arthur Ash stadium."
World No. 79 Tomljanovic forced a third set against Gauff in the first round of the tournament.
Gauff then required a tie-break to win the first set of her second-round clash with Vekic.
The American insisted she needed to experience those tough moments during the first week of the US Open in order to move forward.
"Overall, I am really happy with how I played today and to be through to the next round," she said.
"It has been an emotional week for me, like you said, but I think I needed those tough moments in order to move forward.
"I was putting so much pressure on myself, but I am really out here trying to enjoy it and not focus so much on the results, but on the process.
"I think today showed that I am really having fun out there."
Gauff is hoping to win the US Open for a second time, having stormed to victory on her home court in 2023.
She wants to repay the faith of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center crowd, who were behind her throughout the clash.

"The support means a lot to me," she added.
"I truly can’t put into words how privileged I feel to walk onto this court and have the support of you guys.
"Also on social media and things like that.
"I really appreciate every person, even the staff here, just being told that someone is rooting for you every five steps I walk in this place means a lot to me.
"I just hope I can repay the feeling for those around me as well."
