BREAK! - GAUFF 3-6 2-4 OSAKA
The alarm bells are blaring for Coco.
A complete miscue coughs up two break points and it’s the third seed who blinks first in the ensuing baseline exchange with a skewed backhand into the net.

GAUFF 3-6 2-3 OSAKA
Coco wins the first point on Osaka’s serve for the first time but the intent to turn the screw doesn’t pay off.
Osaka’s serve and the plus-one power has been the trump card so far.
Gauff then looks exasperated as she drags a backhand off the island and it’s another simple hold for the loss of one point for the two-time champion.
20:19
GAUFF 3-6 2-2 OSAKA
Gauff glosses over a fourth double fault of the match to level up with a solid hold to 15.
The serve fired nicely for the most part there, but she needs to start making an impact on the return if she’s to work her ay back into it.

Gauff wobbles again with a double fault and Osaka looks to take full advantage.

GAUFF 3-5 OSAKA
It’s been plain-sailing on serve for Naomi so far.
Another dominant hold to 15 means she’s dropped just two points on serve so far and is one game way from bagging the opener.

GAUFF 3-4 OSAKA
Gauff demonstrates the world class quality of her backhand with a delicious winner that even has Osaka applauding.

GAUFF 1-3 OSAKA
Too good.
This is an excellent start from the 23rd seed.

19:35
GAUFF 1-2 OSAKA
That’s much more like it from the reigning French Open champion.
