GAME, SET AND MATCH! - MEDVEDEV 6-0 6-1 6-3 BORGES
The 2021 champion’s bid for a second US Open title gathers pace.
Daniil Medvedev crushes Portugal’s Borges in just one hour and 51 minutes as he serves out to love with aplomb.
The Russian No.5 seed will now meet Jannik Sinner or Tommy Paul in the last eight.

BREAK! – MEDVEDEV 6-0 6-1 5-3 BORGES
That could be that.
Nuno is in charge at 30-15 but makes a real hash of a backhand before a 10th double fault offers up break point.
Daniil duly delivers a hammer blow with the forehand winner and will now serve for the match.
20:53
MEDVEDEV 6-0 6-1 4-3 BORGES
This is much better from Nuno.
He’s taking care of business on serve and not giving Medvedev the free pass to easy games.
The Russian’s scoreboard advantage could yet pay its role at the business end of this set, but at least the World No.34 has shown the Ashe crowd a slither of the quality he can produce.
20:46
MEDVEDEV 6-0 6-1 3-2 BORGES
It’s certainly more of a battle for Medvedev in this set.
The former champion is having to work much harder, but he does just enough again here to hold from deuce and snare the scoreboard advantage.

BREAK! – MEDVEDEV 6-0 6-1 2-2 BORGES
It’s all a bit hit and miss from Borges.
The Portuguese is capable of some super tennis, showcasing more of his skills with a bazooka of a crosscourt backhand and some fine agility to reach back and slam away an overhead.
The leaky and needless errors are making that counter productive, however, and Medvedev grinds his way to four separate break points.
The Russian can’t make anything of the first three, but after a brief mid-game delay due to a fire alarm issue, the No.5 seed makes it count to break straight back.

BREAK! – MEDVEDEV 6-0 6-1 1-2 BORGES
Where did that come from?
There’s a big lull from Medvedev and Nuno actually remembers he’s a very handy tennis player. The outcome is a shock break of serve as the Portuguese forces the backhand overhead mistake on the second of two BPs.
Now, then… Is this match about to get competitive?
20:21
MEDVEDEV 6-0 6-1 1-1 BORGES
Daniil rolls through a blink and you’ll miss it love hold to kick off Set 3.
In contrast, Nuno’s first service game is an absolute epic.
The Portuguese tries everything, throwing in plenty of S+V, but butchering a couple of routine smashes before fending off a couple of break points and digging out a rare hold.

SET! – MEDVEDEV 6-0 6-1 BORGES
A bagel and a breadstick.
Medvedev’s bakery is open overtime at present as he breaks again to leave the Portuguese man wondering what he has to do to make this even slightly competitive.
We aren’t talking about a star-struck qualifier here. Nuno is 34 in the world and beat Rafael Nadal to win a clay-court title in Sweden a couple of months ago.

MEDVEDEV 6-0 5-1 BORGES
What he offers with one hand, he taketh away with the other…
Medvedev coughs up a double fault and then miscues a forehand to hand over two break points.
The Russian saves both, firing down a couple of aces as he navigates out of danger following an extended period facing-off around deuce.

BREAK! – MEDVEDEV 6-0 4-1 BORGES
Borges could not have dreamed up a worse couple of sets here.
The Portuguese World No.34 romps into a 40-0 lead – but still ends up being broken!
A double fault helps send him spiralling out of control and a wasteful forehand jab long sees Daniil pocket the double break.

19:46
MEDVEDEV 6-0 3-1 BORGES
Medvedev unleashes a tremendous forehand winner and doesn’t look back as he backs up the break with a high-class clean hold.

BREAK! – MEDVEDEV 6-0 2-1 BORGES
Nuno offers some resistance as he swats away a break point with am almighty smash to reach the sanctuary of deuce.
It’s merely a brief riposte, however, as he makes a mess of a forehand before double faulting to put Daniil back in the driving seat.
19:38
MEDVEDEV 6-0 1-1 BORGES
The only way was up for Nuno after that first set and he makes a much more positive impression at the start of Set 2 with a hold from 30-30.
Medvedev quickly levels, shrugging off a double fault to hold to 15.

That is quite the statement.
Medvedev serves out to 15 to gobble down a first-set bagel in just 23 minutes.

GAME, SET AND MATCH! - DRAPER 6-3 6-1 6-2 MACHAC
British No.1 Jack Draper produces one of the best performances of his career to dismantle rising Czech star Machac and reach his maiden major quarter final.
The No.25 seed was a cut above throughout and serves out from deuce via a super backhand down the line to conclude victory in just one hour and 42 minutes.
Draper will meet Alex de Minaur or Jordan Thompson next.

DRAPER SERVING FOR THE MATCH...
Tomas holds from deuce and then gets the twitchy game from Jack he was hoping for as the Brit tries to serve it out.
A double fault demonstrates the Brit’s nerves and he’s soon trying to face down two break points.
Machac drags just wide on the first before an intelligent serve and volley gets the Brit to deuce.
A wide ace then earns match point….
