US Open 2024: British No. 2 Cameron Norrie withdraws after failing to recover from forearm injury

British No. 2 Cameron Norrie announced on Friday afternoon that he would not be competing at the 2024 US Open in New York. The 28-year-old has been suffering from a forearm injury, one which had kept him out of the Paris Olympic Games, and he wrote that the issue had not sufficiently improved for him to get back on court in the United States.

Cameron Norrie has withdrawn from the US Open after failing to sufficiently recover from a forearm injury.
The British No. 2’s problem had kept him out of the Paris Olympic Games, with his most recent action on court being a defeat to Rafael Nadal in the last 16 of the Swedish Open a month ago.
He has also had ties at the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open cancelled.
That has left the 28-year-old unable to prepare for the season’s final grand slam in New York City, and he wrote on Instagram that he had not been able to get back to fitness as he had hoped.
Norrie announced: ”I have been working hard to get my body to full health - unfortunately my forearm injury is not recovering as soon as I would have hoped.
“Therefore I will not be able to compete in this year’s US open.
“I’ll take some rest and recharge. Can’t wait to get back to competing like a dog.”
Following Andy Murray’s retirement after his Olympic exit, there are just two British players in the main draw in New York, Jack Draper and Dan Evans.
The US Open takes place in New York from August 26 to September 8.
