A FIFTH MATCH POINT FOR MEDVEDEV!

The No.8 seed throws the kitchen sink at Daniil and deservedly cuts through the defences with a crosscourt forehand.

RUBLEV 4-6 3-6 4-5 MEDVEDEV
Medvedev creaks with a tired-looking backhand approach down the line into the net to cough up another break point.
This time he slams the door shut with a beastly serve and from there Rublev can’t do enough to exert more pressure, lashing a crosscourt forehand wide to let Daniil wriggle free.
The No.8 seed will now serve to stay in it.

BREAK! – RUBLEV 4-6 3-6 4-4 MEDVEDEV

BREAK! – RUBLEV 4-6 3-6 3-2 MEDVEDEV
Could it be a different story this time around? Previously, Medvedev has consolidated a break back, settled back in and then pounced at the end of the set.
That doesn’t happen on this occasion as Rublev clocks up another break point and then steps on the accelerator with that forehand to lure an error long and take charge.

BREAK! – RUBLEV 4-6 3-6 2-2 MEDVEDEV
Déjà vu.
Medvedev’s depth and relentless capacity to endure in energy-sapping rallies proves key once again.
Rublev’s forehand misfires as he looks to crank up the power stepping into his backhand wing and it’s that movement that eventually sees him succumb as he sizzles a crosscourt attempt into the net on the second of two break back points.

MEDICAL TIME-OUT FOR MEDVEDEV
It sounds like Daniil has a pain in his stomach and something of an issue with his breathing. One to keep an eye on.
