Immaculate Federer crushes Wawrinka to set up Djokovic clash

The number two seed has been in magnificent form over the past fortnight and continued to play irrepressible tennis as he overwhelmed his compatriot 6-4 6-3 6-1.

At 34, Federer is producing some of the best tennis of his all-conquering career, winning all 18 sets so far on his way to becoming the oldest Slam finalist since Andre Agassi in 2005.

The all-time grand slam singles king with 17 titles, Federer heads into Sunday's final gunning to add to his record haul. He has not won a grand since since 2012 Wimbledon.

The final will mark the 42nd meeting between the two great rivals, with Federer holding a wafer 21-20 advantage.

"We both can handle ... whatever we present to one another, and I think our matches, it's very even."

Wawrinka came into the contest buoyed by his French Open triumph over his old friend, but rarely looked like repeating that after Federer saw off an early challenge and secured the only break of the opener in the third game.

Federer's domination grew as the match wore on and a double break at the end of the second set put him in complete control.

Wawrinka's challenge faded badly in the third as his unforced error count continued to rise and Federer sealed a final spot against Djokovic in just one hour and 32 minutes.
