Alex de Minaur joked that he knows all about girlfriend Katie Boulter’s weaknesses ahead of the United Cup, which begins on Friday.
De Minaur is part of the Australia team that has been drawn alongside a Great Britain side that includes Boulter.
The two countries face off against each in Perth, and the duo may be on opposite ends of the court in the mixed-doubles match.
When asked in a press conference if he would be competing in the mixed doubles match, he replied: “You never know until you sign on the dotted line.
“Mixed could be an option, I have played mixed in the past with Katie. So, I know all her weaknesses.”
Each tie between the two countries includes one men's singles match, one women's singles match, and the mixed doubles match. Whichever team wins at least two of those matches becomes the overall victors.
Boulter is part of a Great Britain United Cup squad comprised of Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans, Neal Skupski, Francesca Jones and Maia Lumsden.
She is matching her boyfriend’s ambition to seal a win, should they go head-to-head, and added: “Yes, obviously! I want to win. Whatever happens it will be a great match, but I will be playing completely seriously.
“Whoever plays with me I’m sure will be working as hard as me to get a win.”
While Boulter’s competitive meeting with De Minaur is not certain, the Brit looks set to face Ajla Tomljanovic in the women’s singles match.
Tomljanovic rebuffed any suggestions that she would get advice from De Minaur about Boulter’s game, and praised the British No.1 for an impressive year of progress in 2023.
"I've played Katie Boulter a few times. Last time on grass, if I'm not mistaken. But she's coming off of her best year. It's going to be a really tough match.
"Katie Boulter has got a big game. But yeah, I'm just looking forward to getting out there and doing my best."
