Iga Swiatek is into round three of the women's singles tennis competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The four-time French Open winner extended her impressive winning run at Roland-Garros to 23 matches as she dispatched home favourite Diane Parry in straight sets.
The world No. 1 asserted her superiority from the off, breaking the unseeded Frenchwoman twice in the opening set to take a 6-1 lead.
The 23-year-old repeated the feat in the second, wrapping up the contest in just 1hr 14 minutes.
The win for the number one seed means she extends her winning run on the iconic Paris venue's clay courts, where she last lost in the 2021 championship’s quarter-finals.
While the Polish star is the clear favourite for Olympic gold, her progression to the third round is also the furthest she’s reached at an Olympic Games, having lost in the second round in Tokyo 2020.
After beating Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu 6-2, 7-5 in Saturday's first round, Swiatek was drawn against France's Diane Parry, who herself had overcome Argentina's Nadia Podoroska in her debut Olympic Games match.
Although Swiatek had shown some weaknesses in her first match, she appeared in commanding form from the off, controlling the tempo and not allowing Parry to play her game.
Her service game was on-point throughout, and she forced her opponent to attempt difficult shots just to try and get a foothold in the match.
After Swiatek rushed to a 5-0 lead in the first, Parry did finally get a score on the board, saving two set points to win her first game of the match.
It would be the first and only for a while though - Swiatek serving out the first set before breaking the Frenchwoman again early in the second.
While she did hold her serve to make it 2-1 in the second, the result was never really in doubt - the number one seed running away with the second and seizing the win with her first match point.
Swiatek moves into the third round, where she will face Xiyu Wang of China, who beat 15th seed Diana Shnaider 6-3, 6-1.

Gauff, KreJcikova and Paolini progress to the last 16

Shnaider’s loss in the second round was the biggest shock of the day, as all the other seeded players in action made it through to round three.
Second seed Coco Gauff impressed celebrity fans on Suzanne Lenglen court as she dispatched Argentina’s Maria Lourdes Carle 6-1 6-1, meaning the American prodigy has only dropped five games so far at her debut Olympics. She now faces 13th seed Donna Vekic after the Croatian beat Bianca Andresscu in straight sets.
The Italian fourth seed Jasmine Paolini was also unfazed in her first Olympics, cruising past Poland’s Magda Linette 6-4 6-4. The 2024 French Open and Wimbledon finalist will now face Slovakia’s Anna Schmiedlova in the last 16.
Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova, had things a little bit easier after being taken the distance in the first round. The ninth seed made short work of China’s Xinui Wang, winning 6-3 6-2.
The seeds didn’t have it all their own way though. Eighth seed Danielle Collins was taken to three sets by Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki, but the American showed her experience to break in the third set and win 6-3 3-6 6-3.
Her compatriot, the 11th seed Emma Navarro, also had to come from behind to overcome Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova 6(5)-7 6-4 6-1.
Elina Svitolina rallied from a set down to dump No. 5 seed Jessica Pegula out of the women’s singles.
Pegula took the opening set, but Svitolina - who has reached the quarter-finals of the French Open on four occasions - rallied to claim a 4-6 6-1 6-3 win.
Svitolina will take on Barbora Krejcikova in round three.
