Murray and Evans celebrated wildly after clinching the victory, and are looking forward to building into the tournament.
“To save five in a row you need a bit of luck,” Murray told Eurosport. “We did also play some good points. We made zero errors and made it difficult for them.
“At 9-6 I hit a couple of good serves, probably two of my only good serves in the match, and we connected on returns.“

“I have never saved that many match points consecutively,” the Scot said. “You can play matches where you have saved one or two here or there, but five consecutive match points is pretty rare.”
Murray conceded they were not at their best for long spells in the match.
“It was pretty bad for a set and a half,” Murray said. “Definitely feeling a bit nervous and not playing many matches recently, and when backs were against the wall I thought we played well at the end of the second set and at the end we came out with some good stuff.”
Murray has dragged his fans through the wringer down the years, and he admitted the match on Court Suzanne-Lenglen was par for the course.
“Typical match for me,” Murray said. “A very early finish for me!
“Hopefully if we can get a bit more consistency and do the things we did well at the end of the second set, I think we can play a lot better than that.”
Evans produced one of the moments of the match with a stunning drive volley at 8-9 in the deciding breaker.
“I did not have much room,” Evans said. “I was kind of forced otherwise I was hitting it at his [Murray’s] head. It was a bit lucky, but I got a good strike on it.
“I can’t believe that just happened really. It was amazing, and it was a pretty cool atmosphere.”
