Novak Djokovic finished 2024 without a Grand Slam title for the first time since 2017 and had to pull out of his 2025 Australian Open semi-final against Alexander Zverev after one set through injury. What will Djokovic’s 2025 schedule look like for the rest of the season, and how often can we expect to see the 24-time Grand Slam champion in action?

As Novak Djokovic enters the twilight of his career, he has reduced the number of events he plays in as he chases a record-setting 25th Grand Slam title.
The 37-year-old played just 12 tournaments in 2024, failing to pick up a Grand Slam for the first time since 2017 but adding a men’s singles Olympic gold medal to his roll of honour.
He pulled out of his semi-final against Alexander Zverev at the 2025 Australian Open after one set through injury on his most recent attempt to break the tie with Margaret Court for the most major titles in history.
But the Serbian, with Andy Murray still in his corner, is back to fitness, so when and where will he be playing next and what is his 2025 schedule likely to look like?

When will Djokovic play next?

Djokovic lost to Matteo Berrettini in the first round of the Qatar Open in his first event back after the Australian Open.
The manner of the defeat and his body language at times in Doha sparked more injury fears, but Djokovic is in the field for the ATP 1000 tournament at Indian Wells from March 5-16.
That is followed by the Miami Open, the second leg of the Sunshine Double. Djokovic withdrew in 2024, citing a need to balance his "private and professional schedule" and hasn’t played there since 2019.
The clay-court season then begins with the Monte-Carlo Masters on April 6 as the countdown to the French Open ramps up, which will be the next chance Djokovic has to land another Grand Slam.

What events will Djokovic play in 2025?

Djokovic has spoken about his plan to prioritise only the biggest events for the remainder of his career, but beyond Indian Wells, Djokovic’s schedule for 2025 is not confirmed.
It would, however, be a surprise were he not to play at least one of the Monte-Carlo Masters, the Madrid Open or the Italian Open in preparation for the second Grand Slam of the year at Roland Garros.
Wimbledon closely follows the French Open before the Grand Slam season concludes with the US Open at the end of August into September.
If the 37-year-old decides to sprinkle in some ATP 1000 appearances in the second half of the year, he may also feature at the National Bank Open, Cincinnati Open, Shanghai Masters or Paris Masters.
Djokovic has also previously stated his desire to continue representing Serbia in the Davis Cup after losing to Italy in last year’s semi-finals, with the second round of qualifiers in September.
And should he qualify, the season-ending ATP Finals are in November.

No slams but still a golden year

Djokovic has been the dominant force at Grand Slams in recent years, scooping up seven since the start of 2021 to soar past Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in the all-time standings.
He has not secured a 25th major yet, but won a much-desired gold medal in 2024.
So how did Djokovic reflect on his year?
“I had the feeling that I could go all the way at Roland Garros, but then the injury occurred. I played finals at Wimbledon…The Olympics were my biggest goal, and I played my best tennis in Paris.

“If it’s that kind of year – me winning a golden Olympic medal without a slam, I accept it because I’ve been waiting for that gold my whole life.
"It’s a fact that this is my worst season in terms of results in the last 15 years, I feel that way too, but it is what it is.”
