Garbine Muguruza sealed her place in the second round of the French Open with a straight sets win over Svetlana Kuznetsova.

The Spaniard did not concede a single point in the opening set tie-break as she blew her opponent away with power and precision.

Muguruza, who won the French Open in 2016, proceeded to coast through the second set, losing just two games.

Very surprisingly with both players former champions, the match took place on Court 1.

Kuznetsova was simply unable to find a response against the third seed, who looked mightily impressive throughout the match.

Muguruza, who is considered one of the clear favourites for the title again this year, will next take on Fiona Ferro of France.
