Roland Garros crowd branded 'selfish and not educated'

The Australian coach, who now looks after Grigor Dimitrov, appeared outraged by the crowd on Philippe Chatrier as Tsonga and Wawrinka made their way on to court for their last-four clash.

Rasheed's frustration was largely with the half-empty stands as the Frenchman began the semi-final looking for support, with other coaches, journalists and fans commenting on the fact that many spectators seemed to be still having their lunch when the players arrived on court.

However, for many others, the Roland Garros spectators quickly made up for their slow start with a raucous atmosphere being generated as Tsonga fought back to win the second set.

It's a sad fact when it comes to big sporting events that often the biggest matches attract the most corporate visitors with many avid fans having to miss out as a result. The frustration expressed by Rasheed and others was perfectly understandable given that many seats were indeed vacant at the start of what is a huge semi-final involving a French hero. But once Philippe Chatrier filled up there was a pretty special atmosphere when Tsonga fought his way back into the match. Attending a big day at Roland Garros is considered a social event for than anything else for many attendees, but that is the case at lots of other high-profile sporting events.
