Amelie Mauresmo on whether she had again cracked under pressure at Roland Garros after losing to Anna-Lena Groenefeld: "Don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Don't you even try. The conditions were not the best. We couldn't see much at the end, we could hardly see the balls, but it was the same for her and for me. There's no point discussing this."
Ana Ivanovic(who did not play last week's Madrid Open because of a knee injury)after a 7-6 6-3 victory over Sara Errani: "I think last year's US Open was a great experience for me, I played when I wasn't fit enough to play and I kept thinking about my injury through the matches. Before my matches, before I stepped on court, I was thinking, am I fit enough to play? And I felt fit enough, so I just put it out of my mind, and I don't want to think about it. I expected a tough match. I knew I would have to work hard for my points today, and I'm very happy I did that. I kept my composure even when I was making a few mistakes."
Marat Safin, who is making his last appearance at the French Open before retiring at the end of the season, after his 6-4 6-4 6-4 win over Alexandre Sidorenko:"I'm not really happy with the way I played today. I couldn't feel the court, for some reason. It was a weird feeling. Hopefully it was not the last time (on centre court). Maybe I have a couple of more matches here. So it would be great. But I didn't think so deep."
2004 men's champion Gaston Gaudio after losing 6-3 6-4 6-1 to Czech 18th seed Radek Stepanek: "It's a pain in the neck to have lost today for this is a tournament that I love."
Lleyton Hewitt admits his heart sank when he saw the draw and realised he would be playing 26th-seeded Croat Ivo Karlovic, who he beat 6-7(2) 6-7(4) 7-6(4) 6-4 6-3: "First thing, obviously, I thought was the loss at Wimbledon (a) few years back in the first round. I felt like I was a little unlucky...to play him on any surface, he's so dangerous. His first serve is extremely tough on any surface to get. He gets up higher because he's hitting so short in the boxes. The angle he gets, you can't touch a lot of his serves. It's physically impossible."
France's Mathilde Johansson on blowing eight match points in a 2-6 6-2 10-8 defeat by Vitalia Diatchenko: "At the moment, I just feel like running away. But we all make mistakes and this is an experience I'll be able to use for my future grand slam tournaments."
