The 15-year-old, who is the reigning Wimbledon girls' champion and finished runner-up at the Australian Open in January, dropped her serve twice in the opening set as she struggled to get to grips with the surface.
But the Melbourne-born Brit quickly bounced back, breaking in the eighth game of the second set before racing through the third to book a second round meeting with Poland's Sandra Zaniewska.
"I do like (clay) but obviously my game suits a faster surface," said Robson, who will sit one of her GCSEs in Paris during the tournament.
"I'm trying to change my game to suit clay more. But I don't like what it does to my socks!
"To be honest, my expectations aren't that high, I'm just going match by match and see how it goes."
