Romanian number one Andrei Pavel, recovering from a back injury, has postponed a decision on whether to play in this weekend's Davis Cup tie against last year's beaten finalists France.
Last month, Pavel was forced to retire during his first-round match against Italian Renzo Furlan at the Australian Open after aggravating a back injury.
He resumed preparation last Saturday, when doctors cleared him to train after three weeks of inactivity.
"I feel good, I have no pain but I'm still hesitating," Pavel told Reuters on Tuesday.
Pavel has practised over the last two days but he has not played a full set yet.
"I don't want to put my team mates' efforts to win the match against France in danger, by having to come off court because of a relapse," Pavel said.
"I know that I risk my career if my injured back does not cope with the strain," Pavel said.
Adrian Voinea, Victor Hanescu and Gabriel Trifu make up the rest of the Romania squad with Hanescu lined up as substitute for Pavel if he cannot play.
The winners at the Polivalent Hall in Bucharest play Netherlands or Switzerland in the Davis Cup world group quarter-finals.
