Dan Evans, the 2019 Surbiton Trophy winner, could not add to his success in 2024 after a second-round exit at the hands of Zachary Svajda. The British No. 2 overcame Adam Walton in the first round on Wednesday before this defeat. It was a quick turnaround for the 34-year-old after only beginning his grass-court season on Monday, following a first-round exit at Roland-Garros to Holger Rune.

Dan Evans got his grass-court season off the ground, but had his campaign cut short in the second round of the Surbiton Trophy.
It is a path the 34-year-old from Birmingham has trodden before, winning the ATP Challenger event in 2019, but a 4-6 7-6(5) 6-3 loss against Zachary Svajda denied him a quarter-final berth.
Despite a close encounter with the American, the British No. 2 will need to improve his game further as he finds his rhythm in the run-in to the lawns of SW19.
He will turn his attention straight to the Nottingham Open next week, where he is likely to enter as the No. 1 seed.
Evans only started preparations for the grass-court season on Monday, making a straight switch from the Roland-Garros clay, but it will not take long for the Top 100 player to gather momentum on the surface.
Evans has won three matches and lost 12 across his last 15 singles matches, but is presented with an opportunity to climb up the rankings once more this summer.
He reached a career-high ranking of world No. 21 last year following a successful August, reaching the third round of the US Open for a fifth time in 10 years, just missing out to Carlos Alcaraz.
And a second career ATP title win in Washington, where he took out Frances Tiafoe and Grigor Dimitrov, may help him carry confidence into another huge summer.
Evans recently partnered Andy Murray in doubles in the Scot's last year at Roland-Garros, but the pair were knocked out in the first round 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (7-3) by South American duo Sebastian Baez and Thiago Seyboth Wild.
