Emma Raducanu in ‘good spot’ after Billie Jean King Cup success - ‘I'm a dangerous player'

Emma Raducanu can not wait for the new tennis season to get underway after finding her form again following a difficult couple of years with injury. The former British No. 1 has impressed en-route to two straight-sets victories for Great Britain at the Billie Jean King Cup in Spain. "I know I'm a dangerous player. I know no one wants to pull my name in the draw," she told WTA.

Emma Raducanu has been buoyed by her return from injury, and feels she is a "dangerous player" heading into the 2025 campaign.

Raducanu spent two months sidelined with a foot injury ahead of the Billie Jean King Cup, but has returned to the court in style - helping Great Britain to reach the semi-finals.

The 2021 US Open winner enjoyed a run to the last 16 at Wimbledon earlier this year, and has been in fine form this week to down German Jule Niemeier and Canada's Rebecca Marino - both in straight sets.

And the former British No. 1 took "pride" in her victorious return, as she reflected on her current position in the WTA scene.

“My assessment is, I think sometimes I need reminding, I'm top 60 in the world and I have played less than 15 events, which is pretty unheard of, in a way,” she told WTA.

“I have to pat myself on the back for that. I know I'm a dangerous player. I know no one wants to pull my name in the draw.

“I take pride in that, and I'm looking forward to hopefully staying on court longer next year.”

Instead of taking a break after the BJK Cup, the 22-year-old wants to continue her momentum and take it into her practice for 2025 - with the Australian Open looming less than two months away.

“I think traditionally you'd probably have a bit of a break and take a holiday or something,” Raducanu said. “But I feel like I have had four, five weeks off tennis, and I don't really need any more time off."

She added: “If anything, I'm excited and just itchy to get on the practice court, and of course, seeing some of my performances this week, it just incentivises me to do more work.

“I'm really pleased with how I fought and how I'm faring up against these top girls [at the BJK Cup].

“I feel like I'm in a pretty good spot with my tennis right now.”

Now ranked British No. 2 - Raducanu found herself propelled into the top 10 of the WTA rankings in 2022 following her historic US Open victory. But her position plummeted in the following year.

Raducanu produced underwhelming performances on the court before she required major surgery on both her wrists and ankle last year, but has enjoyed an improved 2024 campaign.

Her run at Wimbledon was the deepest she has produced in a Grand Slam since her US title, and she reached the semi-finals of the Nottingham Open in June - losing to eventual winner Katie Boulter.

Raducanu also boasts a perfect record in the BJK Cup this year, having seen off French duo Caroline Garcia and Diane Parry earlier in the campaign.
